I used to buy shoes that were on promo but stopped doing so after a few bad experiences. The problem with shoes on sale is that such shoes are typically kept for a long time and the glue has dried up. After a few months (depending on your luck), it will turn into a crocodile with the mouth wide opened. I have tried sewing the shoes immediately after purchased but it didn't last too long as well.

By the way, if one is into spikeless shoes, can go for ECCO and Kikor. Kikor is very light, soft and comfortable. Ecco is really on the high end which I can't afford. As for Adidas, I have Adicross and another model. Both are very tight and uncomfortable.

For spike shoes, I find that Adidas Tour360 is really really good. Can last a long time.

Kikor good? maybe I buy that next after my adicross worn out. Anyway if you have not notice adicross is the the wide front hence i wore 1/2 size bigger compared to maybe adipure or 360.

I just got a pair of Kikor and it is very comfortable. I like the fact that it is light and soft but I have only tried it at the range. Need to wear it on course to see how it grips against my wild and aggressive swing. Slinger should be able to provide more feedback on kikor shoes.

You are right about Adicross. I got the exact size and feel really tight. Tight is good for something else but not for feet.

Interesting. I see many mentioned that they 'interchange' both spike and spikeless or different brands. I had a Adidias Tour360 and FJ Sport, I realised that changing the shoes affects my swing. I deduced the cause might be that the Adidas Tour360 sole is thicker. Though the Adidas is very comfortable, I stick to FJ for lighter weight and better score! Smile I can't imagine me interchanging spike and spikeless.... :0

So is it me or someone else also experiencing this?

Btw, Adidias Tour360 on sale with 3x use @ $50! Smile Size 9.5!

guys, a few questions..

What is meant by stability in the shoe?

more to the point, why are spikeless shoes less "stable" at the cost of flexibility and comfort?

How does "stability" affect the swing?

i have been wearing shoes for over 40 years...

if its wasnt stable, neither my mom or me would have bought it...

i have both spike n spikeless....

as far as im concerned, they just need to be comfortable...

n meet my price brackets....

i dun think too much into a pair of shoes....

I recall reading a Golf Digest article trying to explain why some golf shoes are built to be more rigid/stable and some more flexible. According to the article, your physical co-ordination and sense of balance plays a part in what type of golf shoe would suit you more. Now, how much of this is true and how much is quasi-scientific marketing using an editorial as a cover remains to be seen, but the key takeaway is that different models of golf shoes are designed for different purpose and are definitely going to feel different.

I have 2 pairs of golf shoes I use very often, a DryJoys in white and a FJ Icon in black. Both are comfortable but they feel very different. The DryJoys is more like a sports shoe, while the Icon is very much like a working/dress shoe.

Initially I preferred the DryJoys as the Icons were stiff. But after I wore the Icons in (after about 20 games) and it became less stiff, I am tending toward the Icons, I feel a bit more stable in them.

If anything, I have realised that when my spikes are too new and give too much grip, I don't swing well, or if i do, my left knee hurts slightly. I am probably sliding my feet around too much, but I guess after making so many swings like that, when I have too much grip with my shoes, something seems weird.

On a side note, I actually wore a pair of old football shoes (meant for Astroturf) with those mini rubber studs and they felt pretty good ... may consider packing them for overseas trips as they are lighter

Anyways Najiba, at your age, I am going to assume you are still growing, so don't make your daddy spend too much ok?

hahaha thanks uncle Derek! truth is.... my golf shoe tore pretty badly. I'm paying half the money for the shoe and he'll pay half! so thinking what would be a better investment! I usually buy things when I really need it!

The best investment is probably going to be something that lasts and with a look and design that you are happy with ... I am very happy with my FJs but there are a lot of people that have had problems with them ... I never liked Addidas because the gluing between the sole and the shoe did not last, however those were cheap entry level models ... I have heard good things about the more expensive ones ...

But these are all guys shoes .... have you tried asking Aunty Mloy?  Or better still, ask Uncle Eric, he will definitely know which brands make good quality lasting shoes

Derek,

get the 360 one, last quite long for me.. only thing is the white colour is high maintenance on my part specially after rainy days and when I'm on golf marathon (3-4 days non stop golfing overseas). otherwise solid piece of work.

FJ not bad as well, my last one lasted a 2 years plus.

Remove the spikes and you can still golf with these. Even without the spikes, on both rainy and shiny days, the sole still grips well, well enough to not slip and lose your balance throughout your swing. Surprised? Smile

Talk about better investment, haha it can't get any better than these. You can wear for golf, shopping, casual walk, etc. Of course, quality wise Ecco would probably top these, however it's cheap, it's multi-purpose, its everything you need in one Smile

The only downside I've ever encountered was wearing these on oily surface could be hazardous.

If don't mind, can consider buying used shoes. Used shoes are very comfortable.

Having switched to spikeless a year or so ago, I haven't looked back. I haven't really seen any loss of traction and have gained a new level of convenience without having to change my shoes from home to course and back. In fact, the spikeless shoes are more comfortable than my spiked ones and I won't hesitate to wear them all day (not that I will).

My favorite spikeless golf shoe brand is Ecco.

I got myself a pair of True Linkswear shoes in the US. I agree, they're great. The saleslady at Golf Smith said that Alice Cooper wears them and loves them. They're very comfortable but I don't think they have much arch support so do bear that in mind if you're keen to pick them up Smile
