PostSubject: What are hybrids for?   Tue Aug 13, 2013 1:31 pm

Hi Guys, have a few questions to ask. Please help me clear my doubts.

1) What is Hybrid for?
2) when do you use hybrid clubs?
3) Are hybrids suppose to replace any other clubs?
4) If I want to get hybrids, what kind should I choose?

Thanks a million!

1) What is Hybrid for?

They are intended to replace long irons which are traditionally more difficult to hit. Hybrids have bigger heads (which are like woods blended with irons) and more forgiving than a long iron.

2) when do you use hybrid clubs?

When you need to take a shot which is intended for a long iron. Hybrids are also easier to use out of the rough.

3) Are hybrids suppose to replace any other clubs?

Long irons. What are long irons? Well, I have 2H - 5H in my bag. Go figure Smile

4) If I want to get hybrids, what kind should I choose?

That's like asking which driver or putter to choose. Go test a few out Smile My preferred hybrids are the Cleveland Launchers (the oldie ones) and the newer Adams Super XTDs.

Dude

Use the Search feature and type in 'Hybrid'

You can ignore the WTS threads and you can read many previous discussions on the pros and cons of using hybrid plus answers to your above queries

a quick search will give you alot of results !!! I am no pro, but basically a hybrid replaces the difficult to play long irons... i have difficulty with the long irons, but really felt better when using a hybrid!

If you hit with hybrids, the roll is more. Irons give more consistent and accurate distancing, hybrids has a little guess work with the distance.

But hybrids are easier to hit cos if you hit slightly before the ball, the ball still can go respectable distance. for irons, if you hit before the ball, the distance decreases significantly.

I use 3 and 4 hybrids to replace 5 wood (170m) and 4 iron (160m)

I also find hybrids easier than woods to hit the ball.

Do take note that hybrids are not magic clubs. Hydrids also have long shafts, therefore they also require "some effort" so that they can do what they are suppose to do. But they "require less effort" than long irons.

Noted that hybrids can be used to replace long irons, but what about hybrids vs woods?
in what circumstances do we choose hybrids over woods?

Well, I don't carry any FWs but I would say that hybrids are better used when the ball is lying in the rough or semi-rough. FWs are more for when the ball is nicely sitting on the fairway.

But I do agree with stickman. Hybrids are not magic clubs.

Woods worked better on fw. The length of woods are longer if compared like-for-like with similar lofted hybrid, most can hit the wood a tad longer. Hybrid is more versatile to hit off rough. Its shorter length is easier to swing. Basically its a trade off.

I find that for anything below 18 deg loft, a wood is easier to get the ball up in the air than hybrid.

And the swing is different, I believe.

Hybrids are struck more like irons whereas FWs are "swept."
