For golfers who are trying to break 100, my advise:
a. keep your driver
b. practice a club that will give u 150m distance consistently
c. play every hole, aim for 3 ons, 2 putt

Good Luck!!

I would attest to what peter.golfer have said.
have been trying to break 100 consistently, just played my best round 94;
what i did;
* easy swing on all shots, reduce duff and mishits. forcing shots are sure thing not to hit the ball properly.
* use more hybrids (i dont have a wood in my bag) on tee off on dog legs or narrow fairway.
* anything beyond 140m (i dont hit far) break it down into two shots. e.g. 180m use two shots pw pw.
(found out that after hitting two consecutive pw pw or 9i 9i, you will be more confident on your 2nd shot, just like practicing on range same club played twice is easier)

Just my take, may not work for all.

Cheers! : )

That's what I m trying... I dun need my driver to go far (ave 180-190m straight can Liao), the rest will be 7i or 6i (130/140m) n a wedge (90m) to the pin + 2 putts (Par Or bogey Liao)

use the club that you are comfortable with. no need to hit hard, as long as you hit smooth should give you distance. most important: don't follow others

I finally break 100, in the most unexpected of circumstances. I usually play to 10x. Was playing with my kaki and his friends at palm villa, and they play from blue. So ok, we all played from blue. I nvr play blue before. 1st 9 played 50, 2nd nine 48. It was surreal, still cannot believe that i break 100 from blue. Even got a birdie from a par 5 hole as bonus.

Just want to share this, that playing from blue is not as daunting. Perhaps it was playing from blue and hence the "pressure" to break 100 is lifted off. Not to say there are no challenges, for eg my longest ever par 3 ever played @180m. Now the dilemma is my next game play white or blue....

Does it matter???? blue or white? if u can break 100s consistently, it really does not matter blue or white. Cannot break, even from red also cannot.

Congrats on achieving your first milestone! Wish you more sub 100 games.

Instead of pondering to play blue or white, would suggest you analyse your recent game to see what you did differently to enable you to score sub 100. Was it less wayward drives and iron shots? Less 3 putts? Playing with less aggressiveness thus resulting in less problems? Think this would help in your next game. All the best! Cheers!

Congrats!

Breaking 100 is a good feeling. I broke 100 too when I played at Palm villa. Smile

One thing I learn. Don't count your score till you have finished 18 holes. Reason: When you are playing well and you feel that you have a chance to break 100....what will happen?... you will be so kan cheong and try too hard and that will screw up your score.

All the best to your next game.

certainly it was good feeling to break 100, maybe i'm luckier playing from blue and hit a "once in a blue moon" score haha.

Bro golfnut what you said is quite true, for the 1st time only 2 triple bogeys. Maybe due to longer distance, course manage better not so aggressive try to get GIR all the time. Not good lie, just punch out the ball.

Agree. I played with my 64 year old flightmate last Sunday at Poresia weekend Blue Tee. Wah!, He got 5 birdies and so many pars that he was 3 under, gross. Then the inevitable happened. I believe he think too much about the score and played the last 3 holes: triple, bogey and double. And he ended up 3 over 75. But it's still a damned good score, if I must say. Btw, he is a 8 hcp.

I love Palm Villa in JB, the greens and course are forgiving yet long enough to be fun. I shot my best game ever there, few years ago!

Wow! Congratulations!! What a feeling that must be Smile great playing and keep it up!

The key to breaking 100 consistently, for us anyways, is definitely the short game.. putting, chipping and shots from 100 yards and in Smile keep it up!

I am having the same problem. Cannot look at the score card or talk about it.  Kranji front 9 I played 36. So happy but back 9 came back 56. Good day +80 Bad day +100.

Congrats!

One thing for sure is to always play one shot at a time Wink Keep playing the white tees until it gets easier each time and when you are ready go to the blue tees.

Always have a coach to guide you and check your clubs with a club fitter. If the shafts are too heavy, tendencies are to have an over swing, find clubs that are matched to your height, with lie angles correct and grips that fit well in the hands.

Keep it up and love the game, it will reward you when you put quality practice, rather than quantity.

Cheers!
