I would suggest OCC also. Not sure if you range often but RCC range closes damn early. OCC has more facilities over RCC. Moreover, OCC has a better location as in you can still drop your family at nearby shopping malls while you go golf.
Bro, there is only a relatively small North Point mall in the vicinity at the moment ... You sure your wife and kids can shop at one miserable mall for 4-5 hours? Over at RCC, there are a few malls in the vicinity ... Jurong Point, Jem, Jude Box, IMM, etc.
Bro Turbo, when you mentioned vicinity, you take into consideration the distance?  Just making an observation only...Very Happy
Yes of course ...

North Point mall - 3 mins by car to OCC
Sembawang mall - 10 mins by car to OCC

Jurong Point mall - 15 mins to RCC by car
Jux box & Jem - 15 mins to RCC by car
IMM - 15 mins to RCC by car
Very Happy Thanks!

I can show this to my wife now.... Beer
BTW, there is a Causeway point mall which will take you about 15 mins to reach OCC ... Very Happy

Bro, I cut and paste an article from Straits Times (Internet):

Golf clubs across Singapore, facing an uncertain future, have been told they will learn of lease extension plans early next year.
The Singapore Land Authority (SLA) has urged the golf clubs to hold off on major development and recruitment plans for now.
In January, the Government flagged plans to redevelop some golf courses to better optimise land with such low-intensity usage.
Last month, Raffles Country Club members voted down a plan by the club to proceed with a $26 million revamp on one of its two courses. Members had not been told that the authorities would be initiating lease renewal talks with the club soon.

Prices are low now for most clubs.... i heard. I'm member from from RCC, there are no news or anything from the committees with regards to the land renewal issues. It's also not up to us to say. Sad to say, Palm course condition is horrible. Soggy most of the time YUCKS.... but well at least the green manager got the greens back to good conditions. Now awaiting for Lake to be back into condition.

JCC will be a good buy. I do not know about the boooking period. But at RCC it is easy to get booking. we can just walk in or call in and book and anytime they will have slots for us. Unless they have tournament. Weekends morning is difficult but afternoon it's easy booking too. Weekends you can't play 1-ball. Min. 2.

For you wifey, I cannot think of any activities for her at all.... No swimming or maybe the mahjong room. However, I'm proposing to the lifestyle committee to start a yoga class. Maybe she can join us. Or even better, get her to learn golf and join our LAdies group every Wednesday. The mens there are very envious of our LAdies Wednesday Golf Game.

Any questions, please feel free to ask.

OCC- family oriented

RCC- only for golf

if its me, i would choose OCC over RCC.....

if i am member of RCC n NSRCC, i rather golf at NSRCC cos the course conditions are MUCH better than RCC.....

the proposal to revamp RCC Palm has been veto cos majority members think the course is in good shape (???????), i dun even want to start on Lake....

on the upside, lease for RCC should be renewed.... cos i cant see other development there cos of SAF LIVE FIRING RANGE in the vicinity

Since u stay at upper bukit timah, have u considered Warren as well....

The members vetoed the revamp not because they think the course is in good condition. The general feel was management should wait for SLA to revert before doing any major revamp. It is only 3-4 months to the meeting. During the meeting, the committee was asked why the need to rush for holding the meeting without first awaiting reply from SLA. The committee failed to reply. This was the main reason why most members went against the course revamp.

I was actually very supportive of the course revamp. All it takes was another $4K I play 3-4 times a week. after 2 years there will be a new championship course, a brand new range which is nearer to the clubhouse, a new practice area, why not. And this $4K is in installment basis why not.
Most members who turned out that night, majority I have never saw before confused my guessed is that either they se;dom play golf, dun wan to top up, and/or are in their senior and/or will not be playing for another 10 years down the road.

Another group of non-supportive but active members felt "played-out" because they were not informed about the SLA meeting till the article came out one day before the voting.
Therefore, my guess is, there will be another round of meeting to update whats the outcome on SLA issue.

One of the member there quite well known told me, they stupid trying to make a 19 holes golf course, since the palm is already quite long, why should they make it shorter? Yes, I heard also many members never even seen before turn up to vote against the upgrading before the SLA outcome. Thks to ST which published the article. Anyway I think if the land renewal went through, the upgrading will also go through, current members most of them don't mind forking up the $$$ for the upgrading.

jmho....

Palm drainage is bad cos the underground pipes are leaking.... just look for those little white flags on the fairway/rough

so the course is really due for revamp...

regardless the outcome of SLA, its ONLY $4k, and BEST, installment over 24/48 mths..... somemore got FnB vouchers

why is it not worth risking this $4k..... considering the proximity of the industrial land n the SAF range over at Tuas

Wow thanks for everyone inputs! I must say the majority seems to be leaning towards OCC on the basis of better amenities for the wife, night golf, better course conditions and higher possibilities for lease extension.

RCC seems like a better place in terms of slots availability throughout the week and potential upside if and when the lease is extended.

I will like to hear from you which club you think is better for entertaining clients and business partners as well.
I am still undecided, probably will bring the wife to visit the clubs this weekend to get a feel.

From my experience, the primary factor to choose a golf membership should be which club you and your golf kaki willing to play with you on weekly basis or at least once a month.

Otherwise you will be playing solo, join flight which usually rare and resulted underutilize your membership.

For my case, I am a JCC member but played less than 2 games during the whole 2012. Seen its already under utilized, I can't balance to join my friends whom go Malaysia every week; it is to costly for them to play as guest rate in JCC; it is not worth for me to pay guest rate at RCC, Warrent, etc. with another group of my friends...   Hope you get my point.

Agree with Kenneth on the kaki comment. It's important to have a regular pool of kakis whom you can play together. BTW, i am a member at Keppel and over the years have build up to a pool of about 6 to 7 kakis that i golf with.

Hi All!
I had the chance to visit Seletar Club today and I must say that I was pretty impress with what I saw. In fact among those that I have visited RCC and OCC, Seletar gave me the right mix of business and pleasure. I am wondering if anyone can share with me the following
(1) I understand Seletar has a fairly short lease of less than 10 years. What are the implications for members when it expires?
(2) Are the golfing slots hard to book on weekend and weekdays?
(3) Will it be hard for new members to get to know kakis to play?

Seletar just renovated their 18 holes recently. So the course is relatively new.

All clubs in sg, u must go down on fri to queue for next wk slots. Seletar since it got only 18 holes so it should be harder to get.

You got any regular kakis at the moment?

Hi enwee, I am fairly new golfer, I usually play with my friends at MBGC, Keppel and Batam. On weekends, i walk at the revamp Green Fairway.

I will probably need to make an effort to get to know new friends! I am looking for a club to secure and maintain my handicap and to entertain business clients as well. Was looking at RCC or OCC until I discovered Seletar today and was quite taken in by the quiet and rustic charm of the course. What are yr thoughts about Seletar, OCC and RCC?
