Occ. because rcc now in the land issue. Seletar also got land issue also got only 18 holes, unless u wanna bring your bag every wk go seletar and join any 3 balls flight

RT

As a bro Kenneth said earlier in the thread, better to ask your present kakis whether they would be keen to play with you every week at occ or rcc or whichever club you decide to buy.. They may not...

How often do you need to entertain your guests? Usually how many times a month?

Just to share you can join MGK for $160 thereabout a year, and pay to play at occ on weekdays for like $85 a game.. Cheap i think..

If you join some members of rcc on tuesdays you pay $79, also very affordable..

From your residence at Upp Bukit Timah, not sure how close is Seletar to your place... Many of my friends there stay in Yio Chu Kang area so it's convenient to them than for me..

What I would look at is do you really need a club.. I had a few before and I found myself grossly under utilizing them...

Lastly, do you think your family would actually go down to make use of the facilities.. Used to think that my kids would go to the clubs often but in the end they hardly have the time after all their tuitions classes cca etc....

cheers

Thanks Chien!

The main driving force behind buying the club for me is to entertain clients and business partners. I am expected to entertain maybe twice a month on a weekday.

I need a place where I can host business associates to a nice game of golf and perhaps close some business deals as well. I have limited budget and RCC, OCC and Seletar are within my means for the time being. Which club u think will provide the right ambience for business?

Hi RT

Twice a month is not often at all and pending your family usage, weekly golf time, kakis preference etc, you may not really need a club i feel...

I used to host more than twice a month so perhaps I could share what I would look out for..

1. Course condition- You won't want your business clients to feel lousy at end of game.  Feeling good after a game may translate to successfully achieving your objectives (which is what you Really want right?)... Rcc and Seletar courses are not easy, and most of the time players walk away feeling exhausted.. Would your client agree to your proposals after playing 110s ? Also, Rcc course condition is not great (thats why they are proposing a course revamp), although it's very challenging..

2. Service level of staff & marshals- Once went to a club up north and got shouted at by the marshals, and we all know how unfriendly some marshals at MBGC are.. These are incidents you don't wish to happen when you bring your guests.  So far, I have great experiences at TMCC Sentosa and sometimes NSRCC even! They know how to treat the golfers.. OCC marshals are nice too I must say.. Cant comment on JCC marshals cos I only played there once couple of months back but they used to be ok too..

3. Food at club house- After the game when the time come to close the deal, NSRCC is the worst place to be.. You have nice food cafes at TMCC SICC Sentosa etc, and you want certain level of services as well..

4. Last but not least, crowd level- I prefer a place not so crowded like NSRCC.. The locker room is somewhere you won't wanna hang around..

And also, are your clients overseas clients? If yes, then I strongly suggest a club which has caddies... TMCC SICC JCC (?) Laguna(?) have caddies for hire...

As mentioned, If you only need a club to entertain guests twice a month, I would not buy a club membership.. I would bring them to
1. JCC, nice course not too difficult and wide fairways..
2. Sentosa, exclusive and excellent
3. TMCC, well known and great services and food (but you need a member (me) to sign you in)
4. OCC, affordable and easy to play
5. NSRCC Changi, if they are competent player and not too slow else they be chased behind.. Jumbo is not a bad restaurant though the locker room is still to be desired..

The above list is just few we mentioned but not exclusive..

And of course, all dependent on entertainment budget... Smile

cheers

Wow, bro Chien. Thanks for sharing your experience.

I do not host guests regularly but ocassionally my overseas clients come here and I do not know where to take them except NSRCC which I used to be a member. Now I know a little better. Thanks.

NSRCC- yes, my Jap frens and I were pushed by the marshals. And as a Jap, my fren was expecting a caddie. And let's not re-visit the F&B issue with NSRCC hehe...Laughing It is also not cheap for foreigners.

NSRCC is basically for us locals who want a relatively well maintained course to golf at a reasonable price. It has its good points and hence I am still considering whether to "sign-on"again.Very Happy

Hahah so true. Hey I'm a member in nsrcc too, so I don't mind laughing at ourselves.
Lets just say, the language can be a bit 'colorful', given its slightly blue collar member base

Course condition is pretty good though

Since you only need to entertain clients on weekdays, you should consider term membership for weekdays for Seletar ... meaning that you are only restricted to game on weekdays only. This is cheaper and cost effective option for ya ...

Seletar has an internet booking system. But it is very hard to get Saturday slots.... Sundays are okay.

Hi bkll,
Sounds like you are a member of Seletar. How about weekday. Will it be tough to get a slot?

I will also like to find out if the course is tough for a beginner and too challenging to be engaged in a business conversation thereafter as the player are just too "shacked"?

Thanks in advance for your kind advice!

Weekdays are okay unless there is a corporate event.

I dont think if you can get tired from golf if you are riding a buggy. Maybe when buggies are restricted to cartpath.

Just play from the white tees.

Hi bkll,
Thanks for your replies, just one last question... what are your thoughts about the 8 years lease left of Seletar? Do you think lease extension could be an issue? Thanks in advance!

You will most likely walk the same distance as Blue Tee whether or not you play from White.Cool

Hi RT76,

so have you got your RCC or OCC.
I am thinking of getting either JCC or RCC.

I play regularly every Saturday morning, and find it make sense to join a club considering that weekend price is so high. But I just found out that joining a club doesn't make it easier to play on Saturday morning as most clubs usually are packed on weekend.

In fact, most club requires you to physically queue on the Friday before to book for the next week weekend slot? That's very troublesome right?

Can any members of RCC kindly help to advise if it is true? Don't they have internet booking?
Even public course like Marina have online booking.
Puzzled.

Thanks

Hi icta!
Happy new year to everyone! I finally brought Seletar back in Nov. Enjoying the game and the course tremendously!

I guess the tipping points for me are the friendly people and scenic course at Seletar. In addition, Seletar has a more vibrant after dark activities. There are always people hanging around in the evening for drinks. RCC can be rather quiet at night.

However I think RCC can be value for $ considering the membership price is at all time low and there are 2 courses available.

My take is that it's almost impossible to play on Sat morning anywhere in SG! I guess u need to know the right groups in each club so that they can make the booking for u. Among the 2 clubs u mentioned JCC & RCC, u should have more luck at RCC to play on weekends. I was told it's relatively easy to get a slot on Sun afternoon.

Anyway all the best in yr decision and perhaps u should check out Seletar too =)
