Age is a major factor especially for social golfers ... Long irons require strength and speed to handle ... When one grows older, he is no longer flexible, agile and has the strength of a much younger man ...

Just curious, since many had this problem with long irons, had anyone try reshaft the long iron to maybe a lighter or maybe the same as the hybrid shaft? I very tempted to give it a try at times, especially after a few bad hits with the long irons. Eventhough I have only 1 left.
I believe this is a good idea ...

Yup,
Call me any time.

Might be easier to visit me at the range for the swing tips though.

Those are pretty good distance, especially considering you just started playing. Best time to get a coach and learn the fundamentals correctly rather than to learn and adopt bad habits that will be hard to break later.. just my $0.02 Smile

hi bro,

social golfer roughly should shoot ard this range

7 iron 135-140m
6 iron 150
5 iron 160 to 180m ( If its a good shot)

you are shooting ard there.. maybe you might just need some tunning by some Pro.
maybe 2 lesson just to correct your swing. Cheers !!

I used to have a coach but never got better. I learn from YouTube coaches like mark crossfield. Works for me so far. Just keep in mind to put into practice only the right mechanics for the swing n I think you'll be fine.

I am not sure above distances are carry-only or carry + roll. If you are consistently shooting these distances with those irons at the golf courses, then you are already doing pretty good for a social golfer, especially when you can hit hit 170m -180m with 5 iron consistently.
Don't want to be wet blanket here, but I never take the range distance seriously especially when i am hitting on elevated grounds. Range mats give a false sense of security. A duff shot still get the ball up into the air because of the extra bounce off the hard range mat (as compared to the actual greens).

the only way to know your distances is to get them on actual play on the course. at the range 160-180 also looks like 150. and  irons above 8 iron usually rolls out on the green.  meaning 5 meters or more depending on the ball u use.

but that said, distance on iron is irrelevant.  accuracy is what irons are for.  a certain 7 iron to pinpoint 125m  is better than a wild wedge to 125m. can boast but cant cash cheques.

a pro told me average 7 iron is more like 125m carry.  or less.  average means 22-24 handicap. 18 handicap is NOT just average. its above average.

As a beginner, I spent alot of time practising my irons in the range. Initially, i have the same problem the distance difference between all irons is not significant. It's only after correcting my contact then i start seeing the distance difference. Your contact will determine how efficient your energy transfer from your swing to the ball.

The following links shows a video on how to hit a long iron. Hope this helps! Enjoy your golf journey bro.

Bro pocket, exactly the same reaction as your's.

Maybe their 5i has 20deg loft.

Same reaction here. 180 I need a 3 hybrid with solid contact. I hardly use 5 iron. Cos always cannot hit it we'll enough.

the distance also depends on the type of irons u use, GI clubs has stronger loft and can have a difference of 10 to 15 m.

IMHO, to hit well with your long irons, you need a lot more practices, just like driver... the longer the club, the more you need to practice.

If you are hitting up on irons (scooping), tendency is that your 5i, 6i and 7i are likely to be of the same distance. You will need to hit down to take advantage of the loft.

Sometimes, it may be your swing fault. Suggest to look for a coach again.

Cheers.
