PostSubject: home putting drills to recommend?    Mon Dec 02, 2013 9:39 pm

Hi,

Any home drills to recommend to improve stroke?

I have a 10f x 8f space?

Naturally at home cannot do line improvement drills, but stroke consistency should be possible?

Also is it worth getting those mats?

Thanks in advance.

mats are good.  2 books each side of putter and stroke without hitting the thick books.  cheap and simple.

but tiger says putting is speed before line.  distance control decides putting line.  pick target s on uour mat more important.

If u watch golf channel, there's a drill on putting. Not so much on line of putting.

There's a lot of factor on putting.
Learn from the pro and coaches and you will benefit rather than reading here and there or practicing alone.

The pro and coaches will teaches you how to read greens, strength control, technique on downhill putt, etc...

Look for Justin Han, Poh E.W. for putting lessons.

I learn from Poh E.W.

Akhild, putting is a whole game unto itself and a very elusive and fine balance of aim, pace, and line.

But certainly, a putting mat is a step in the right direction. Putting mats vary vastly in quality and price though. From low double digits to almost three digits in cost, carpet-like to turf-like, slow to fast. Head down to Far East Shopping Centre and visit the shops there to get an idea. Golf and Leisure has a few types of Japanese quality mats, but be prepared to pay. Or you can head down to any Golf Direct outlet to search out more cost effective mats like Slazenger. Some of these mats though are exactly the same but because of branding, vary greatly in price.

For a start, work on your setup, aim and mechanics till your routine becomes comfortably automatic. You'll be surprised how difficult this can be since how our body feels changes from day to day. Then move on to pace, trying to get the ball to just die with one last tumble into the hole to help develop touch.

If a coach is not an option for you, the next alternative is to seek out drills on YouTube that you can practice at home.

Don't underestimate the humble putting mat, it can make a powerful difference with just a few minutes practice each day. Very Happy

Oops, agreed, agreed. Never up never in! Very Happy

Neglected to mention, practice dying the ball in the hole with a putting mat where the last foot is elevated a few inches higher. That simulates putting a foot or two past the hole, correct or not? Very Happy

If you are looking for quality mats, you can try synlawn putting mats. The price is on a high side ($200-$300+) but definitely fun to play with. Will try to post a photo of mine later. If u want, try order through their US website as it will be cheaper than buying it locally.

Thanks all.
Based on recommendations I got a mat from golf leisure and a putting mirror from amazon. Mirror helps a lot. I was missing left coz my takeaway was straight n impact slightly closed and follow thru on arc. With the mirror I knew what to fix. Now I'm straight back n straight thru..

Any idea if they will allow this mirror at mgbc practice green?

Finally anyone who wants to try mirror can do so at my place in dover. If u want to borrow a few days to try, just ask n buy me a beer Smile

Nope. Nomadic. Rely on credit cards with free green fee :-)
