PostSubject: Do you miss Toonshouse   Fri Nov 27, 2009 2:28 am

Let me be upfront... this post has no ill intention... the reason why i am starting this post is because many of us are from toonshouse previously and i am sure many of us do miss some of the wonderful time there. Thus the intention of this thread is to pay tribute to toonshouse and serve as a place for people to pen down any unforgettable event/incident that they had in toonshouse...

For me, as a starter, i miss ChinChiaChun's post alot, especially his review on the Ikasu which has a good mixture of humor and wit. IMO, its a classic. Its a pity that the review has disappeared with the forum altogether.

Whats yours?

We are trying to bring back those reviews after dgman suggested. Mc is figuring it out.

yah every single day I freaking miss toons so much. I freaking miss that place so much that I am inspired to log in from my mobile phone and post this post in china.

I miss the freedom of toonshouse, the fact that it was just a simple place where we could have fun. A place where the jokes were funnier, and the knowledge wealth was so much better.

I miss toonshouse cos it was welcoming and it was indeed a house, a home where I could unwind at the end of the day...

Pity toonshouse has closed down and sadly, we are like homeless immigrants with no place to go, end up we have to move to a republic.. oh well, at least we have a place to go, but end of the day, home is still where the heart is.. Pity mr toonshouse left us alone... If only he could understand the plight we are in Now..

I really freaking miss toonshouse so much that tears are freaking forming in my eyes as I write this post.. If only...

similar to TS, i only join toonhouse for a short time like <1 month? begin to get used to the page and then gone......

i were at lost at tht time and i think is UL who told me that many memb migrate to GR.....

well, cant comment on the diff but GR feels more organized, more ppl, more frequent events...... but oso a little more "restrictive" (well, sometimes we gota give n take, cant have it all..esp when the group grow too big)

I can't remember if I was active in toonshouse? So I'm not sure if I really miss toonshouse.
I love GR...GR is more organized...Very Happy .

There's good stuff for GR forumers here... decal's, subsidised caps, range sessions, etc..
I can easily refer my frens to come to GR. Last time I ask them to go toonshouse, they get lost, they say, always got people chatting nonsense to one another like a closed group; I tell them dun be wuss and go make frens , esp easy to make frens who have a common craziness for golf; but they paiseh or got some kind of warped, misguided sense of internet forum 'decorum'.

Anways:

Now with GR.. I tell them.. very simple.. come GR..
1) Post a hi.. I'm so-and so newbie thread...receive the warm welcomes (usually from multi colored nicks)
2) Buy a subsidised GR cap
3) Wed night go mbgc, collect cap, meet up with forumers.
4) chalk up 10 min posts.
5) start selling stuff on Marketplace. 8) Old shoes, socks, gloves..stuff you bought off ebay cheap.. no worries..just sell. When no one buys, start complaining about kuku buyers who are "not sincere".
6) Just be slightly careful what you say, don't upset people with colored nicks.
7) Like real golf, try to leave the place in a better condition then when you found it; e.g.
try to make constructive suggestion on how to improve the forum.. go to the thread/post that says " Let us know what we can do to improve the forum", only to find that it's an announcement/locked thread and that you can't reply to that thread...

Peace
Very Happy

Think i won't log on today, public holiday.. too much free time and unspent energy (no golf today).. last time during another public holiday when I got bored, I started to draw lines trying to understand the swing plane and apparently it upset many people.. albino

even tho i didnt post much on toonshouse, i have to agree with siaw8 that a lot of the posts that were entertaining there, and perhaps gave some character (for better or for worse) to that forum.. i do miss CCC's reviews on his ikasus.. never fail to crack me up! What a Face

having said that, i would also say that GR is a much better run forum, better organised with activities, partners, and pros coming in to give advice... self censorship can only work when the participants behave.. failing which, we would require some form of policing and censorship to keep the (GR) world in order.... compare teh Aussie Open with the HSBC or UBS Open... one where the crowds were sensible and well behaved, the other where marshalls had to ban cameras entirely.... if everyone turned off their flash, and shutter sound, set their mobiles to silent or vibrate... wouldnt the golf course be a much better place? Smile

of coz, if the idea of the "bunker", or "the rough" were to materialise... mebbe, that would merge both good elements of each forum! Razz

lastly, i would like commend all the mods on this forum for a job well done! much appreciated! keep up the good work! thanks! cheers cheers

Just a request...as we pen out thoughts....naturally there will be things that we miss and things that we will like to move on fm improvement standpoint...

As such, I do encourage all that chime in.....to consider ' Lets agree to disagree ' if there are things that mite not suit our eyes or ears as long as it is all in the right spirit.

For me, I do enjoy Toonshouse....but it is more of entertainment-centric...but GR is more for golf-centric...which suits me too..

my point is not to make GR like Toonhouse, but make it even better with the current crop of members. every forum is unique and like they say, the harder you act, the more unnatural you become.....

just be yourself......

Toonshouse was a fun forum but too bad it had been shut down without notice. It is really a pity, looking back i was just a volunteer content mod there, doing simple content moderation to delete spams and x-rated stuff. I miss toonshouse, and most of us do. I made many good friends from Toonshouse, too many to list.

Idea of creating GR forum was triggered over an msn group chat with shorthitter and sunny during the period when toonshouse never get revived over weeks. We slowly build bits and pieces of GR through help of friends and golfers. GR today has a solid team of moderators and volunteers. They have put in significant amount of effort and good work. Many thanks to S70B, Muarchee, Technospaz, KatherineChiok, Quinike, Daveaha, Joleelyn for helping out on the forum. And we have many golf pros on board providing free advices/services and Friends of GR to help answering queries about their products. And most important of all, we have some old toonsters' and new members' support and participation here to make GR a lively and interesting golf forum to chat/interact in.

So many thanks to all members, mods, volunteers, golf pros and friends of GR. cheers

Sounds so much like thank-you speech, and in short. I miss Toonshouse and I love GR.

That's correct X-Man.
I think GR is far from commercialized. The admin team is always very transparent about costing for anything from monthly games, range, or charity event. Probably the meaning of 'commerccialized' described by golfer above is that we have some friends from some golf brands.

I believe the admins even fork out some from their pocket to cover some cost, which in this case I'm very thankful for it.

GR is not a commercial forum. It is volunteer staffed and non-profit. We do not have any monetary or non monetary sponsorship. There are vendors and partners who sponsors items or prizes for our forum events and they are to benefit the members. If you didn't notice, administrators refrained from participating in them. The moderators are volunteers. They are just like everyone else except they help to do housekeeping.

We seldom moderate but if posts become personal attacks we would step in for legal reasons. We only moderate spams and we advise everyone to refrain from language that are too foul as they are children in the forum. We just met Geri, a sweet 13 year old girl during our range session. She is here because of her passion in golf and we want golf to be the focus.

You may start new topic if you have constructive suggestions and we would discuss and i dare say many suggestions had already been implemented. We do not want ppl to dump suggestions into a long poat as some newer users would not have time to read the entire thread. New topics with descriptive subject would help.

The team here us trying to build a golfing community and lounge topics should be a consequence of golfers congregating rather than the focus of the forum.

As mentioned, all moderators and even the admin are doing this during our free time and we don't make a cent. GR has a lot of expenses and till today, we are still in the red. Please remember that we have a day job and we need time and energy to do our day job so that we can spare additional cash and time to help make the forum a better place. Contrary to your beliefs, the mods do not like moderating. We are in this forum to make friends and not enemies. We also wish to enjoy ourselves, have a gd game of golf and in our spare time improve the forum. You can help by looking at the rules and regulations and abide by them. I do not feel that the rules are unusually strict. If you find a rule to be too strict, put it up for discussion in the suggestion forum.

For those who dislike us or the forum, I thank you for your previous participation and contribution and i hope you will find a forum that suits you. We do want to make this forum a premier golf forum with a wealth of golf related knowledge and it is inevitable that they are people who disagree with us and our directions. I would like to express my gratitude to the many of you who had given us lots pf encouragement and support.

The only other golf forums beside GR that I find worthwhile on the Internet currently are:

(1) www.golftuitiononline.com (great advice from average guys who tried everything to get better at golf over the years--and eventually did and share their experiences with readers/members.)

(2) www.thewedgeguy.com (even though Terry promotes his famous Eidolon wedges and began playing when he was 4 or five years old like TW--played golf not long after learning to walk!)

(3) www.headcoverleash.com (for the many videos of current & past pros hitting drivers & irons--can watch in slo-mo also)

Sometimes i just think that the Mods are oversensitive lah. Your intepretation does means others also interpret like you. Although i never contribute anything to this forum and I dun think i ever will... but that doesn't leads to framing on some other places that I am some sort of gang leader and "when cross the road must becareful, wait kana bang down my Shotah's car."

Don't worry. We all know the gentle side of you. Tough talk but nice guy.

Unfortunately it is rather safe than sorry if posts that may constitute personal attacks are left behind. It may result in major problems and even legal issues and thus we would rather be overly sensitive than to get into trouble.

We are already closing eyes to some terms or similar soundings stuff and are still studying the feasibility of a separate lounge where we put disclaimers. We do want to make everyone feel at home but different people have different tolerance and thus we have to struck a compromise somehow and that is why we have rules as guidelines.

Do let us know if you can think of something to work things ard
