PostSubject: Mizuno JPX 800 for Beginner - Advice and WTB pre-owned set   Sun Mar 16, 2014 12:54 pm

Hi Guys,

Just started out in golf and planning to get a beginner set, tried my friend's set of mizunos and it felt right

Any comments on the Mizuno MP 52 or 53 for a beginner?

I did some searches online and the reviews are that they are quite forgiving...not sure if they are suitable for a beginner, but being forgiving sounds like it will suit a beginner?

Planning to get a used set, and will appreciate if anyone can share where I can get them and the price?

Thanks!

seems like the jpx series is recommended, saw creative joe selling jpx 800...anyone knows the cost or is anyone selling?

What price range should I be looking at for a set of pre-owned?

Thanks!

Tried JPX at Golf House Paragon and also my kaki set on the golf course. Pretty forgiving. Usually Japanese set off the rack are more suitable for those starting out. When your swing become more consistent, you should get the help of a fitter to tailor the clubs to help in your accuracy/dispersion balancing out your clubs distance. You will truly enjoy your game then.

thanks for the advice......just one thing...I noted the shaft can be NSP 95 or graphite, just a difference in material? I assume NSP 95 is iron?

And anyone letting go their JPX 800?  Very Happy

NSpro is steel and graphite is graphite   Laughing ...I guess you know what it is. Usually steel shaft is harder to handle for beginner. For the same iron (e.g 7 iron) iron distance is shorter but dispersion is smaller (more control). On the other hand, the graphite version, the distance can be longer but dispersion can be wider. I am talking about generally off the rack clubs. But with today graphite shaft design technology, it is possible to have good distance with a tight dispersion with graphite shaft. These aftermarket graphite are of cos more expensive.

My advise is go try the clubs at the local golf shops. Most of them will let you try before you buy and if you should go with graphite or steel shaft. Just my 2 cts worth. Hope it help.

Im using the 1st gen of jpx. It is very forgiving. It also gives you a good and soft feel whwn yoi hit it right. I wld recommend it for beginners. Btw im also a beginner!

IMHO, good for beginners to start with graphite. But up till a certain stage u might want a more stable shafts hence still come into place. If u are young and strong, you should try steel shaft, NS Pro 950 or True Temper GS 85 should be good starting point.

Hi kelvin, I hav gone thru the same path as u. Took lesson, consider buying my own clubs and then lock in to my current clubs.

I agree with bro enwee here graphite shaft is better for beginner. You can really feel the difference, esp in the swing wt, when you compare the two. If you really hav passion in this game and you are not the type keep changing equipment every few months. Maybe getting a steel shaft straight is not a bad idea after all. It is also cheaper than graphite shaft keke

I have changed from graphite to steel last year and very happy with it, except there is a drop in my distance. Im still working on my impact. Hopefully I can increase the good shot percentage soon haha

Correct me if I'm wrong but if the distance is not significant, we shouldnt be worried as we want better accuracy on the fairway as we are not using that at the tee?

That's based on the little understanding that I have so far...haha...

I get better striking with steel than graphite...no idea why...perhaps the steel shafts i tried are more forgiving with the cavity backs...as compared to the graphite shaft as they are of different brands?

anyone can comment if the swing impact are the same for both steel and graphite if they are both of a similar make and model, just different in terms of weight and material (hence accuracy and distance)?

Kelvin, advice to you is go to any demo, tried the same model with steel and graphite and determine on yourself.

One of my friend recommend me this set. However I am wondering whether it will be easy for a newbie to use them since it comes with steel shaft. Or it is more recommended to get graphite shaft
