PostSubject: Super stroke mid slim 2.0 on newport 2?   Fri Apr 04, 2014 7:55 pm

Hi guys, anyone use the mid slim 2.0 on blade putters such as select Newport 2 ? I really like the feel of this grip on my previous mallet putter. Wonder how will it turn out on a blade … any feedback?

Hi, I changed my Zen putter grip 3 month ago. I like the feel. For the short putt, it make more easy, but for long (above 10 meter) I have some problem to get correct distance control feeling.

If u like to feel the head weight, this grip will not be suitable.

I feel that this grip is best suited for a heavy head or a mechanical person who paces off his distance and prescribes a set strength.

Blade putters are usually lighter than mallets. With a fat grip, the head weight becomes non existent.

I used a fat grip on my Rife 2 ball mallet a long time ago. I sold the putter away once I totally lost the feel of it due to the grip

I got a mid slim 2.0 on my Scotty notchback

Works for me, in fact, I won't use another putter grip after this

I have the Superstroke Mid Slim 2.0 on my SC Newport. I have 20g weights on the head. I like the width of this grip, it reduces my tendency to flick my wrist. Also being a lightweight grip, I can still feel the putter's head. Give it a try.

I have fitted my other blade and mallet putter's with Mid Slim 2.0 also.

I have it on my Newport 2 too. Plus I fitted the black zen shaft. Personally this setup feel balanced and it makes light work for short to medium length putts. The 2.0 grip helps to keep my wrists from turning at impact.

Did the super stroke  slim 2.0 on my SC Golo S and love it. Two of my mates also installed it on their blades..  They really like it as well, but also still working on the distance but they certainly have no complaints. Cheers.

Thanks for all the feedback bros!

I have fitted the Super Stroke Mid-Slim 2.0 on one of my blade putters, the Scotty Cameron Newport TeI3 Longneck. I have always love the Classic design of the TeI3 but I'm not comfortable with the 35" shaft and light head weight. Finally embark on a project to make this lovely piece a game-able putter. Asked my fitter to cut the shaft to 33", increase the headweight using lead tape (SW D2) and slap a SS 2.0 on it. The putter is face-balanced and hopefully it can be a better fit for my preferred Straight through putting stroke.

Your putter setup looks like a game-changer. Smile Hope it works out.

In my case, it really helped when the length of the shaft was reduced to 33", added 2 pcs of 20g weights and then finally the use of the Mid-Slim 2.0. I feel more comfortable with my putting stroke after these modifications.

I've got 2 other putters (1 blade, 1 mallet) which I'm thinking of getting modified along the lines of my SC. I'm waiting for the SS Midnight Series to be available  Laughing

Yeah man... 33" is good! Started out playing 35" then 34", now I just can't go any longer than 33". Longer is not always better. Twisted Evil . Same for my driver, I'm thinking of going 43.5" for my driver.

After trying out several grips, I think the 3.0 feels really good but I'm afraid that it might make me lose feel for the longer putts. Might install it on another putter to compare. The 2.0 falls in between my stock grip and the 3.0. It keeps my wrist from flipping and provides feel as well.

Here's to lesser putts!  Beer

I agree, for me, the 2.0 just sits nicely in between the 1.0 (too small) and 3.0 (too fat).

A bit of OT now, about shortening the driver shaft. I suppose this will reduce a bit of distance but then provide more accuracy (am I right)? I'm in the midst of either cutting my driver's shaft or just get fitted for a new shaft. Are you looking at either options too?

Just my opinion...
In theory, longer shafts will give you more distance. I have success using Yamaha drivers that come stock in 45.5-46" shafts. The shafts are usually half to one flex softer than the aftermarket shafts. The whippy shafts generate speed and I do feel that they are more forgiving for my swing. However, to consistently hit near the sweet spot will be a challenge. I will try to play the longest length that I can handle which I think is somewhere 43.5" to 44".
I do experiment with shafts every now & then on my own. I cut my own shafts and do my own re-gripping. Not solely for saving money, but my interest for DIYs. For more complicated task, I will leave it to my fitter.
What driver are u using right now? If it is on a stock shaft, I think it good to experiment with it. If don't like it, then its time to visit a fitter to find the "perfect" shaft for your swing. LOL.

Some pictures of my putter with the 2.0 mid slim. No regrets to put on this grip... Love the slightly oversize grip....

I just wish the Midnight Series 2.0 is available. The white color gets dirty easily and turns to a yellowish shade after some time.

I have the same on my Scotty Newport 2.0. I do notice thouh that controlling putting strength is slightly tougher for a larger grip hence I developed a softer putting touch because of this setup. Anyone experienced the same?
