PostSubject: Casting the driver (Just feeling, not real) and hit up   Tue May 20, 2014 3:54 pm

Hi all, I just want to share something that happened today.

Some time ago I watched this video.

Today I experimented with my driver at the JCC range (centre lane). I play a RBZ 10.5deg R flex. Strong grip.

With the intention to hit up on the ball, i tried to replicate what they did in the video…..have the feeling of casting the driver and "whippy" it a bit.

The results I found was very very interesting. I normally carry 190m - 200m and slight push draw. Today's experiment, out of 10 balls:

4 balls went over the net, slight fade
4 balls hit the net centre height, somewhat straight
3 balls big ol push slice (got greedy and gave it all I have)

The JCC net I am guesstimating to be 15m behind the 200m sign.

I am not sure if it was by freak luck or some other factors. Can't wait to rest a few days and then go to the range again to see if can sustain this kinda results.

Any guys here have similar experience? Cheers.

I agree with the methods taught with the video, having tried the methods myself a few weeks back. Essentially IMO,  the important thing is to release the club earlier and to also not turn yr hips so much on the backswing. Other than consciously keeping in mind these two important points, I go all out and rip my drives as hard as I can.

As a result, I can say I hit the fence at fairway with my drives most of the time. Just my two cents. Cheers buddy.

I m a firm believer of using hip for golf. More consistent than using hands to cast.
However, do whatever works for you!

IMHO. The thing to take away from the video is that you need a + angle of attack and hit up on shot to give it a high launch low spin to max distance.

How to do it varies from golfer to golfer. For me. My drive straight and average 200m for me to setup my approach shot I am happy already.

Please bear in mind the "student" in this case is a PGA Professional with a very good swing that is struggling with an attack angle issue.  I would guess that he is an Excellent iron player

The "fix" given by Mark Crossfield is meant to address the specific issue of the "student", not meant as a universal swing tip.  If you do not have a swing like the "student" in the video and have one more like the typical high handicap social golfer, the results might be very different.  The "fix" is based on the correct diagnosis, which is what Golf Pros are trained to do.

Key takeaway for me, aside from the positive attack angle, is that sometimes, even a Professional might need help from another Professional to correct his own swing ...

It never hurts to see a golf coach once in a while ...
