wow, it seems some folks support playing soccer at parks? I didn't know parks are built as a soccer field and what about safety? Have any of you had a broken finger or got into a concussion when being hit real hard by a soccer ball? Do you think kids can withstand such force?

I agree that the guy should not golf at the park and I do not agree that one can play soccer at the park. If we allow soccer, then what about volley ball? If we allow badminton, then what about tennis or cricket for that matter? Go figure.

Wah.. 80m is pitch ah? i have to hit a full swing with my SW and might not even reach 80m hahaha.

When you guys go on a swing analyser, do you guys ever notice Ball Speed?

Its usually in excess of 100kmh on a full swing. Its no joke! The damage can be pretty severe.

Chipping/pitching around 5-10m radius i can still accept la.  but hitting 80m... the next person who sees such a thing should really just approach him and educate him of the possible dangers.

why would a guy give an excuse to stay away in the 100m range , took a picture , post here and give a warning n hoping that bloke pitching in the park is in this forum?

he should stop him there n then, should there be any imminent danger to any other park user,

perhaps this is responsibility and integrity

Discussion is healthy.
But finding fault, not so.

As seen from the this incident alone, there can be so many possibilities.
There can be endless reasons why the thread starter didn't stop him.
He did at least try to address the issue.

I m not trying to be negative or finding faults but not the hypocritical cogitation of trying to do good.

Different folks... different strokes...

As Dking mentioned.. there can be many possibilities why 2008 did not confront the guy on the spot. maybe 2008 is just not the confrontational kind..

you and i may confront the guy on the spot. but it doesn't mean that we should expect everyone to do the same.  Peace

So failing to argue your way out on the usage of the park and safety issue, you decide to alter course and question about my responsibility and integrity? ?

I choose not to do so for obvious reason. If the guy has the same mentality as you about pitching golf balls in the park, either we would end up in heated argument or he would swing his club at me. This is not a post created to shame him. There was no name mentioned nor his face shown in the picture. If he see the post and stop what he is doing, good. If not, let the authority deal with him.

like I said, if he is posting any danger to other park user, u should report him to the police there n then.

that is no need to approach him yourself

wow....thank goodness and kudos for the large majority of posts here that reflect a high level of "common-sense"  cheers  cheers

Compared to a few post(er)s that argue that there was nothing wrong for that "passionate" golfer to pitch in a public park...... and deviate from the main point with OOT posts..... Rolling Eyes  Rolling Eyes

safety is of utmost importance....period...y is that so hard to understand?

There may be various reasons why 2008 chose not to approach the guy and we all have to respect that. Case in point here is not whether we should approach ppl like that but it is whether behaviours like that is ok.

We should not be finding fault here and I feel this thread is more of one where we learn that as passionate golfers, we still have to be discerning in the places we practise at - proper courses or range.

Great post by 2008 !!  cheers

It has generated more than 3,100 views in the last couple of days, definitely has driven more vibrancy into the forum . .

I believe the main message of this post is to deter any golfer doing likewise in a public park. If there is anything we should take away it should be safety of general public is utmost importance, and we as responsible golfers should always try to exercise certain level of good judgement..

The guy in the picture may or may not be a member of this forum.

And let's not digress into why 2008 took a picture or not or why he didn't confront the golfer or whether he is 60 m or 100 m or 200 m in the vicinity. .

I also don't think it is the prerogative of anyone of us to question the integrity of 2008 in this manner, thus there is no need for him to explain why he didn't confront the golfer.

But,  of cos,  I expect more disagreement and perhaps we'll see 4,000 views! !

Kaii, grass will grow back but that doesn't mean we should damage it. Imagine if a lot of people go parks and destroy the environment, how long does it take to recover? We are already experiencing global warming because humans have caused massive destruction to nature. So let's be mindful to do our part to preserve what mother nature has given us.

but that will destroy the scenery of the course.
the club will use more fertiliser and that will pollute the water system which will have environmental impact that lead to global warming. Shocked

2008 bro, I don't question your decision making and your sense of responsibility. I am very clear about your good intentions.

Having said that, this post (as reiterated by yourself) revolves around safety. I feel very strongly about it as it was part of my job previously and I ever had 800 people working in a hazardous environment, all work permits approved by me. There was a lot at stake and I was trained in many safety processes and how to change safety mindset.

We never, never walk away from a hazard.

Confrontation is a strong word. It is also a wrong word. The way to approach a guy on safety is an art. I will recommend if next time you ever see him again, try this. Walk up to him casually and make a comment about his swing, preferably something positive like "hey I noticed you have a very smooth tempo" or "I like your backswing a lot" . This will put his guard down and bring his defense down. Then continue with some small talk like normal golfers and then slowly come to your point gently by saying "It's interesting I've never seen anybody golfing in a park before. How do you ensure the safety of the public?" or "do you think it's safe to pitch around this park given that so many children play here?" Finally you make your opinion known in a amicable but firm tone, something like "honestly I am worried about the safety of others and yourself, please refrain from golfing here in the future. I hope you understand that I have your best interests at heart."

Having done that, you can go ahead to inform authorities if he persists in his behaviour.

Sorry for long post and I am just sharing, not meant as a lecture in any way. Because I promise you, you will feel very remorseful, if unfortunately that day after you have taken the picture and gone home, and 10 mins later that guy had hit a 5-year old in the eye running around in the park. Because you know that you had a chance to prevent it from happening, but you didn't.

Cheers and peace. Hope all golfers stay safe.
