Thumbs up for nam diplomacy

Hope the bishan golfer don't take things lightly and regret later when his stray balls hit someone's head

Wish to share this piece of news with u guys..

Hong Kong| 49-year old Dingxiang Loeng, a well-known and very flamboyant Chinese businessman, died this morning in his suite of the Island Shangri-La hotel during a reception he was holding for his birthday. According to some of the 217 witnesses of the tragedy, it is while opening a champagne bottle that the billionaire was hit violently in the temple by the cork, an accident that caused a fatal brain hemorrhage.

The accident took place during a sumptuous party that was being held to celebrate Mr. Loeng's 50th birthday, that would have taken place on August 2nd. Nearly 200 guests were present, including most of Hong Kong's political and economic elite, when the celebrated, after a brief speech, opened a bottle of champagne and was hit violently in the head by the cork. Many witnesses actually laughed at first, greatly underestimating the severity of the injury, but an eerie silence rapidly overcame the crowd as Mr. Loeng remained unconscious and the medical staff was urged on the site. Despite all the efforts of the paramedics, his death was confirmed less than twenty minutes later while he was being carried to the hospital.
Many of the guests who had laughed at first, were visibly emotional after the announcement of Mr. Loeng's death.

Many of the guests who had laughed at first, were visibly emotional after the announcement of Mr. Loeng's death.

Rated the 51st richest in Hong Kong according to the Forbes business magazine, Mr. Loeng was an eccentric real estate tycoon who made a fortune in some very controversial deals in the years preceding the transfer of sovereignty of the former British colony to China. Even if his fortune is estimated at more than 1 billion dollars, the Hong Kong businessman was always better known for his various antics and legal problems than for his economic activities.

He was notorious for his drinking habit, drug problems and bad temper, having been arrested more than thirty times over the years for various charges, including public drunkenness, disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, driving under the influence of alcohol and assault on a hotel doorman.

According to the police, the champagne bottle could have been a Chinese counterfeit, an explanation that seems more than plausible for the exceptionally high level of carbon dioxide contained in it. The problem of counterfeit alcohol has become a major concern for the Chinese authorities over the last few years, as the quantity of forged liquors and wines has been soaring. Many experts estimate that as much as 80 per cent of the alcohol in most Chinese cities is fake, mostly using counterfeit branding, where spoiled, low grade bottles of wine are sold as the real deal, yielding unreal margins.

The owners and staff of the hotel, refused to comment the event or the accusation of selling couterfeit alcohol.

if by accident, would one feel remorseful?

why would one put oneself in that situation?

on a self reflective mode, i wondered if i would have minded if this man in bishan just did chipping and bump and runs or the like.

i realise i dont mind his use of the park. its public so he can do anything he likes. Then a full on pitch, half swing or not where the ball carries enough velocity to hurt really got me thinking.

i can deal with nerf guns all over bishan park and kids shooting at each with nerf snd water. but if a kid turns up with a bow and arrow with sharpened steel tips. ........

never mind what the law says or allows.  some common sense should prevail, no?

its a dangerous thing to be hit by a golf ball, period.

if car end up on the walk path by accident. suay. but WRONG
if car recklessly drive on the walk path. ALSO WRONG.

both kena fine. both can kill somebody.

so if the golfer play on a golf course and hit somebody. Suay. but got fault. (nvr shout fore etc)
- golfers playing on the course and range are expected find stray balls whether intentionally  or not.

if golfer hit somebody in the park. he is wrong and reckless. not suay. got difference.

On a lighter note......if the authorities come to know about it, there will be 1 more extra signs together with other host of "do not do" sign........Can you imagine the sign with a man posing with a golf club with a big red cross over him!!!

we were not there to understand the full scenario of what level of safety was breached.

if u see a cobra in the park , would u warn all the park user nearby n get the authority to handle or u take a picture to post here n tell everybody that the cobra is dangerous?

so I reckon , at that moment the safety breach was insignificant and the guy who took the picture was letting the safety with the bloke pitching in the park at his discretion.

using a driving analogy, we have to trust all other drivers on the highway that their driving is safe n that they hold certain responsibility n safety to other road user n let the law handle the OB s.

A story I was told -

A painter displayed his painting with some paints/brushes on the sidewalk . He added a note asking passer-by to comment on his painting.

The next day ,  he went to see his painting n his painting was full of paints. so he left a blank canvas n another note asking passer-by to show him on how should he paint.

u know what?

the blank canvas was still blank

I think most of us are getting tired of this.
last one for me.

the correct analogy should be.

2 school boys
one drew on a beautiful white wall of a newly painted school without being given permission.
the other drew on a canvas.

Both were so so in common standards.

which will get punished?

the discussion/argument here seems to be on safety and why 2008 did not approach that guy.

For safety i think quite straightforward. It's not about ur own safety but others. u can do all the stupid things and hurt yourself but make sure others are not involved. In this case what is the likelihood and impact of the accident happening? For me the impact will stop me from even trying to pitch 50m because the person getting hurt is not me but others. There is a golf range nearby and he should go there to practise.

For why 2008 did not approach that guy, he has already explained that.

Kaii, not sure if u have tried reporting to the police before, for such case, when the police arrive, that guy would have gone home. Police have their KPI and their response time depends on the seriousness of the case.
I have done so in two different scenarios and i know how fast they react. one case is a traffic accident and they are fast. the other case, I wait for half an hour and not a single police officer arrive. Therefore, calling the police may not be a good option.

If on golf course the golfer ball kill someone

What will it be considered as?

MAYBE that depends on the individual discernment.

if I hurt someone on the golf course , whether reckless or not, u can consider it as suay coz I shouted 'Fore' what . but what if I waited n let them pass first?

if I hurt someone in the park with a golf ball, I m 100% (no horse run) considered as guilty for being reckless even with all the precautions taken.

I have read all the comments from taking grass divots resulting to global warning n the definitions of suayness to recklessness but never on how things were perceived without the full knowledge.
