Yes, YOU!!! Haha! In the end only me and Wongster turned up.

He left about 2 hours in as he had other agendas for the day, I stayed for another 2 hours. In total I dispensed 270 balls haha! Got a little carried away.

Yes the balls and mats are about as pristine as it gets! It was very breezy so my range session was an enjoyable one.

Didn't drop by BFG though, wanted to reshaft my driver but next weekend I have a game at Legends so perhaps after that.

Maybe next time ironfist. That's O and 2 on aeroplanes, strike 3 and you're out! Laughing jkjk

I should have went to OCC instead of wasting my time & money at TPY.

The balls are hard as rocks as mentioned before and lose about 20 -30 metres LESS than even the low-compression range balls previously.
You only get about 75 balls per S$12 token.

And the target areas cover the whole field so cannot see where the ball lands beyond teh 150 metre tartget frameworks.

I used to love TPY as you only buy tokens, not denominations of S$20, 30, 50 etc.

And after my pathetic 104 (gross) from the WHITE TEES at TMCC-Tampines course last week (lately I had been scoring mid to upper 90s from the BLUE TEES), I need to know (1) my 'balls' roll out' distance and directions and (2) playing under windy & soggy conditions. Number 1 can be estimated at driving range IF there is a realistic hitting surface for the ball to land upon.

My average ball purchase is usually 300 balls per session as I go thru ALL the clubs except my putter while practicing--and I spend some time pitching and chipping with the wedges at target flags.

Bishan's balls and almost all-sand hitting area are not good.

Fortunately, my lobang at Turf City (Range-on-grass) credited me with S$100 worth of balls in exchange for some work I did for him. I is worth the long drive/taxi ride to go there more often now.

Cheers,

HW

Turf City is good .. IMHO except for the freak rain recently when it was flooded ..
Hitting off grass is best ... and you can try all kind of lies ... try it and it will improve your game ..

Crystal, oh haha! I worked on all my clubs and lost track of time once I started to get tuned in Laughing

clarencekim, You are spot on about the TPY range. I have officially boycotted that place! Used to be a range I frequent (like up to 6times a week) since I live so nearby, but ever since the PlayGolf "changes", let's just say they couldn't suck anymore even if they tried Laughing
I've a thread on that as well:
http://www.golfrepublic.org/golf-courses-and-ranges-f18/toa-payoh-range-bad-to-worse-t2774.htm

The OCC range condition is excellent beyond excellent, plus the breeze helps on a warm afternoon. It'll be my new home range till I am able to join them GR folks on Stary Stary Night @ MBGC.

cheers

CP. Yes I read UR review and now I realise U were too KIND!

At least they could have left the far left or right sides as traditional hitting areas for those trying to gain distance and analyse ball-landing patterns.

The 'high-tech' ball (granite rocks) are going to be purchased with value-added-type cards in denominations of S$10, 20, 30 it appears from the signs on the ball-dispensing machines.

As a comparison, I hit a few extra real golf balls (Nike & Top Flight) and had no problems getting over the 150 metre target frames. With about 20 - 30 metre roll out, probably close to 180 - 190 metres on average.

The new 'yellow rocks' (whenever they clear the top of the 150 metre frame), drop just behind it and do not roll much--maybe 160-170 MAX distance.

On the other hand, I thoroughly enjoyed my 300 range balls at OCC today!

MBGC driving range also good!

FYI, Range-on-grass@Turfcity is good for learning how to hit off uneven lies and cowgrass. The ground is rather hard though unlike the ground you may encounter on tifdwarf or zoysia grass courses.

But it's still more realistic than hitting from man-made mats cos you can take (and analyse) UR divots.

Cheers,

HW

They've started with the card system? I dunno, and I'm not likely to know ever!

The new balls are light green aren't they? They previous yellow balls were quite alright, but the new ones... let's just say they're better off in quarries Laughing

And oh, don't know if you noticed this, the center 2nd level bays, they're not flat, as it they're tilted slightly downhill. If ever you go there again, try rolling a ball back, it'll roll down to the range.

OCC is awesome ain't it? Man, I haven't been back there since they renovated the range as I was telling Wongster on Saturday. Wow and I thought my 270 balls was a bit of a stretch till you came along and pwnz0r it with 300 Laughing

Yup, divots feedback on swing plane and path, something we won't get from mats. But I'm too lazy to clean my grooves after each swing haha.

Alright man, hope to join you on your next OCC range session. cheers

I've heard OCC is really nice. Seen it from afar when I went for paint ball there a couple of years ago. Must join you guys one day!

Turf city is good practice. They have a cool payment system where you don't need to have a range card...
