I need an estimate how far a 18 degree driving iron can go.   My 5 iron goes 165 yards (yes yards not meters).   20 degree hybrids about 195 yards.   So how far can a 18 degree driving iron go?

same as your 20 * hybrid just roll out 10 meters more on the green. 1.55 meters more roll on fairway.

If your 5 iron goes 150 meters, and your 20 deg hybrid goes 175-180m, chances are that most of the time, you will hit a 18deg driving iron in between the 2 clubs above.

Both... I will use it off the tee if there is a narrow fairway.  And from the ground on Par 5.

BTW, is there an optimum launch condition for a 2 iron based on ball speed?
Launch angle?
Backspin?

You gotta be Tiger Woods or something to be using driving iron off any surface, this days most simply use the many easy to use fairway woods to accomplish the job of a much harder to handle driving iron....

Hahaha no... I'm no Tiger.   I hit my 3 iron better than my hybrid.  That's why I'm getting a 2 iron.   It's kind of weird for a player with my handicap, but somehow it works....

BTW those driving irons are simply hybrids with iron heads.   Also my long irons are so easy to hit....

interestingly, wouldnt a 2I go further than a 20* hybrid if struck properly? In any case i think it is great if you can use a 2i properly... there are many factors affecting the distance... IF your 2i is longer than the 20* hybrid, there is no reason why it would go further than it..

I just clocked my swing speed with a 2 iron.  It's 85 Mph.  How far will it go roughly on pure strikes?
