Never mind integrity, score cards and handicaps.
We may have more buayas per capita here than any other country!
That for me, is a very sad thing if winning is everything for some individuals.

PGA tour professionals call penalty upon themselves to lose a tournament, to miss a cut, to even lose their card for the next season. That's when livelihood are at stake.

Yet if they were to choose between winning or their integrity, they choose the latter .

For us amateurs, we still have our day jobs. But some of us choose differently.

Quoted from Straits Times interview "I was very scared that I couldn't match up to my reduced handicap, and it was easy for someone with a higher handicap to shoot a good round and catch up with me." - See more at: http://www.straitstimes.com/news/sport/golf/story/golf-david-seow-1st-singaporean-win-world-golfers-cship-2008-20141108#sthash.9aQdCb1Q.dpuf

We could have misunderstood him, his handicap has already been REDUCED. WTF!!!

shall not name nick to protect the "innocent"
he's a banker, yet he's prepared to risk his own reputation just to "win" a golf tourney

How long was the in-between period from the selection to the WGC games?
I will really love to learn what he did to improve within that period of time....

Not true Daren
He would have finished second last in the 0-5 division based on his gross.

Guys, can we be a little circumspect here and cut David, a fellow forummer, some slack?
The guy played really well and won a world event.
He qualified right on the cusp of the 20-24 division as a 20 handicap.

Yes, he can shoot in the 80s but he also shot two rounds above 90 on the first two days of the WGC.

He hits the ball really well but he is streaky and his handicap will now be cut quite drastically based on his tournament scores.
I think he is a genuine player, who is serious about his game, and a nice guy to boot.

I am sure he will soon be a 12 handicapper and proud to be so.

Disagree

The principle here is his declared handicap and not his score

Many views on this topic. At the end of the day, only Mr Seow himself can answer the question whether the win / WGC crown was deservingly achieved, or otherwise....

Let's look at the facts

-20 HCP
-shoots 4 consecutive rounds of 91 and below in tourney
- last 20 games submitted, only three scores below 91
- two of those tourney scores of 84 and 85

Either competition brings out the best in him or he sandbag lor.

When he is at his actual HCP and wins a Tourney, I am sure no one will begrudge him that.

I have to agree with ITH.

At the end of the day, it's up to David. As spectators, it's easy for us to begrudge and question. This tournament was played on an international level and if the organizers had any questions/doubts, they can take action. For the rest of us, let's just be happy that David represented Singapore and did well.

As if there aren't enough things to bitch about these days....

Congrats to David.  As a fellow Singaporean, he did the country proud.  Cheers to him.

Significant improvement at the High HCP is not that difficult as compared to Lower HCP. I'm quite sure those High HCPers like me sometime see a score difference of more than 10 strokes between a good and a bad game. I believe his pre-tournament preparations have a significant contribution to his better performance, so please give him the due credit he deserves. Congrats to David!
