PostSubject: Is the PC test at MBG and OCC the same?   Mon Nov 10, 2014 11:07 am

My friend is preparing for his PC test at OCC, but is it the same as MBG?

ie. Tested on 4 distances at driving range: 30m, 50m, 100m, 150m

How was your PC test done at OCC? any tips on how to prepare for PC test?

I have seen people taking the admission / PC tests at MBGC. Basically as long as you can launch the ball the tester barely looked at you. I don't remember seeing the folks doing the 30, 50, 100 & 150 specifically. He just brought out one of the irons and whack 4 - 5 balls and a paper was signed on the spot.

bo tai ji one.

What you have described here is I believe what MBGC calls a "swing test". This is just a simple test to ensure that the golfer who does not possess a PC or a Handicap, is able to launch his ball with some degree of competence so as not to hold up play. Thats why the "cert" issued is valid for 30 days at MBGC only.

The PC test is more comprehensive. It not only test your ability to launch the ball but also your knowledge of some of the more common golf rules. After you have passed this PC test, you will be allowed to game on the course (usually accompanied by another golfer who has a valid handicap) at certain time slots and submit your score cards and when you have submitted sufficient cards, a handicap will be worked out based on the scores submitted. So read up on the rules, particularly those on etiquette and safety and spend some time a the range to practice launching the ball.

pc test is a pretend test. no reason for it besides singaporean insecurity and penchant for certificate.

ignore it and go for a handicap test is a better suggestion.

moodi hit it on the head. You take a quiz (the test a bit keh siao one) as they don't mark you, all will pass as the answers are behind. The test is take nafter you attend a 30 mins theory talk.

Then off to the side for that "practical test" and it is as described in my earlier post. But thats MBGC, OCC i donch noe.

If don't get the PC test, then how to go on course to earn your scores for your handicap?

I think its 2 different issue here.  The PC card is required for players to produce to club to state that they are competent to play.  Without the PC card, beginners will not be allowed to play in Singapore club.

The handicap which club maintain requires the player to be a member of a club before a USGA handicap will be generated after submission of 5 scorecards.  Only with a generated USGA handicap from the system, the player will be able to proceed for a courtesy round with the club handicap member.
