PostSubject: Golfer collapsed on the course yesterday   Mon Feb 16, 2015 11:14 am

Playing MBGC yesterday and saw the ambulance driving into the course. Heard Japanese golfer had a heart attack and didn't make it.

At least he went doing something he loved!

Which brings me to the topic - are course marshals trained in first aid, or is there an AED at most clubs?

Always sad to hear of such cases. MBGC being such a well managed public golf course should have AED and marshalls trained in 1st aid.

On a side note, I feel that they should install water coolers. To be hydrated during a 4-5 hrs game in the hot sun is very important.

I believe basic things like water, one should be prepared for oneself ... We all must be self-relianced and discipline as we are all adults ... It is our own well-being ... Cool

There is no water cooler in MBGC.. you can either buy drinks at the café or pay $ for them to top up your water bottle with tap water.... everything there is $$$.. I'd think that after paying that much green fee, the least the club can offer in kind is water cooler facilities for the convenience of its patrons.. Mad

Many clubs have a halfway stop where you can buy snacks and drinks. Unfortunately the only option in MBGC is when you finish the first 9 to return to the cafe. I guess they want to ensure fast play time so that the 8 minutes/flight can be met Very Happy

I put the suggestion in many times but no action taken. If the victim collapse because of heat exhaustion which lead to his heart attack. Maybe now they really have to look into this. Rip for the victim.

did this golfer collapsed due to hydration or due to heart attack?
agreed that MBGC is short of halfway house for golfers to top up water or buy drinks and food.

another option will be a  mobile drinks and snacks buggy

Don't know details. At second tee when we heard the stop play siren then saw the marshal leading SCDF ambulance through the course. Were told that someone had a heart attack, then only after the game they said he didn't make it when we enquired.

Yes, I agree that we should be prepared etc... but there's no harm in installing water coolers around the course. even one water cooler per course would make a difference.

I think beehome's suggestion is a good one.

Ironically, I switched from Road Cycling and Time Trials to Golf based on the recommendation of my cardiologist when I was diagnosed with a congenital heart problem. Since then, I have heard of more golfers collapsing during the sport as compared to cycling...

Anyway, RIP and condolences to the golfer's family.
