Haha umbrella also got expert ah?

I think it's either 282 or 524SW for me because I believe (Carbon?) Fibre or Aluminium should be the lightest

May I know why you are getting the umbrella for? Is it for golf or for normal usage? Do you prefer larger ones or cheaper ones? There are quite a few things to consider if you are seeking expert advise. What you need to state are your intentions.

In general, for golf umbrellas, try to get those with wind breaking (NO PUN INTENDED) capabilities. They are sometimes 2 layered. Spring opened or auto-open would be great. Size should be medium to large, roughly 58" to 64" are great for golfing. These will be heavier but they are worth the weight. A nice sleeve would be great too.

Cheers.

Sorry to disappoint, but Birdiepal closed down already. Company went bust, my friend worked for them in Singapore.
Great umbrella, very sturdy. But also can be very heavy. Also can be stolen easily because of the high quality which is very obvious. I have a couple myself but prefer to use something lighter and cheaper in case it's stolen or lost, especially when playing in Batam or Bintan.

In the end, you have to literally weigh the pros and cons.

Strong sturdy umbrellas will be heavy and harder to handle in wind conditions. And they add to your bag's weight when travelling.

There are two types of windproof umbrellas. The simpler and lighter one is single canopy where they flip inside out in strong winds. These are easliy flipped back cos the spines are of flexible plastic. The main thing you have to make sure with these versions is that the little plastic caps that attach the canopy to the spines are stitched to the spines. Otherwise the caps have a nasty habit of coming off the spines, very irritating to have to keep fixing them back on. The better quality ones are stitched.

The other technology used to make umbrellas windproof is to have double or even triple canopies. The more canopies, the more complicated the construction and the heavier they are. Good example are Nike umbrellas. Very well made and very heavy. These work by having holes between canopies to let the wind pass through, they don't generally flip over like with single canopies.

A good compromise between quality and weight is a fibre shafted single canopy that flips over. But with as much plastic parts as possiible (check to make sure the plastic is of good quality so they will last). Metal parts are to be avoided cos they rust and are lightning conductors, mostly the shaft. A good quality foam handle also lightens the umbrella. Rubber handles feel good but are heavy too. Also, ensure the plastic end of the umbrella that is opposite the handle is not short and stubby but just a little longer so it will sit nicely into the ring or fabric holder at the base of the golf bag. Or umbrella can fall out easily when taking in and out of the trunk, or during transporting by the caddy master before and after the game.

Final note: Silver canopies look nice when new, but over time, the silver wears off leaving unsightly black lines from the fabric underneath showing through. if the silver is on the underside of the canopy, then it's quite alright, but not on the outside.
