PostSubject: Bunkers   Fri Jan 22, 2016 4:45 pm

I can't get out of bunkers to save my life.

I position my ball to the left foot.

I open my club face.

I target the sand about 1 inch behind the ball.

It either doesnt get out or it flies across the green into another bunker.

Help?

swing more around your body, accelerate through, toe up your club to expose more bounce

Unless there is video, no one can really effectively help you. Too many variables.

Most likely, you have slowed down the swing before impact (common problem), and also tried to scoop the ball.

Just trust in your swing tempo. Accelerate and follow through

Need to see how u swing before productive advice could be provided ... Like one bro said, there are too many variables in a golf swing and hence, it can be complicated.

For a quick fix without looking at your swing, use a 58 or 60 deg wedge with high bounce, address your body line and club face square to the target instead of open (advance technique). Weight 70% on front foot and swing upright and hit 2 inches behind the ball and make sure u follow thru ... Feel like u are sliding the club underneath the ball ... This is a simple and yet effective method to bring the ball out. Forget about finesse till u are confident. Once u mastered that, u can start to learn about open stance/club face and control your follow thru to vary your distance and ball flight in a greenside bunker ...

Hey guys,

Thanks very much.

I guess I am actually slowing down the swing just before impact. Probably squaring face to target will be a good idea.. after some thought, think I am opening the face way too much.

Cheers!

Opening the face will increase the bounce angle of your wedge. For those who are not so well verse in bunker shot, square face, off heel ball position, high bounced & loft wedge and hit 2 inches behind ball will be the best tips. Feel like you are pushing the ball out with the sand. Yes, speed up and follow thru is vital for sand save.

Prawnstar may I ask why you position the ball to your left foot?

How different is this ball position compared to your iron shots?

some recommend to swing directly under the ball instead of 1-2" behind the ball, keep the handle position at your zip and make sure you swing through and do not decelerate....try it as an alternative...

Not advisable if there is very shallow amount of sand in the bunker ... common in those poorly maintained JB courses.
