PostSubject: Can't hit well with my MX300   Fri Dec 25, 2009 11:11 pm

I switched from my Honma CL708 blade to Mizuno MX300.
The Sole of the MX300 is quite thick, I find it hard to hit crispy shot especial on thin and dry fairway.
The head tend to skid of the faiwary rather than dig into a divot.
Is that pschological or should I switch bacK?

I find it hard to take a good divot with the MX300.
So is the club fault or the player fault?

hmm sometimes it's good to get some professional advise.... they might video it down, analysis... etc...

sometimes equipment u r not used to it or bay gum, u might compensate sub-consiously or wat... resulted in "error" u might not notice..

If i recall correctly, the sole of the MX300 is pretty broad. not that easy to take divot in firm ground conditions. suggest that you try your Honmas again and see if you take better divots with them.

Regreted selling my Honma.
Oh yes, I tried out on the Adam pro forged.
I can really nip it off the thin fairway lie with a nice devot.
Intended to go back to my old Maxfli A10 tour Limited, combo set.

That's unfortunate, bro. I actually like my MX300s. I find them nice to use. It may be that the clubs were fitted so I find it more comfortable/meant for my swing.

Don't lose hope just yet. Keep practising and see how they play. It may just be that you need to get used to the new clubs.

Hey Bro'Very berry Good',
Just my observations....MX300 is supposedly to be relatively forgiving clubs...as compared to your Honma.... macam the Cleveland hybrid irons..super thick sole to help lesser player like me to hit the ball ..so naturally, more difficult to take divot....try imagine taking divot with hybrid as compared to blade....

thus, if you want to take divot maybe becos of your high swing speed, then naturually I think MX300 or similar will be relatively more difficult then your blade types..

Disclaimer: My humble opinion only....and I don own any MX series...........yet

Save up and get a used set of CL708s from Joe or one of the shops in FESH. If I recall correctly, they are in the region of SGD200 to SGD300 these days?

hmmm, after looking at the MX300 pics, it does look like you can take a divot.

seebayho, go find a club fitter and have the swingweight between the CL708 and the MX300 checked out. do you find yourself topping the ball?

If you hit down on the club and contact the ball first before the ground, you will certainly take divot. I'm sure you can also take divot with hybrid the same way.

The quality of divot is different. With the thinner sole it cuts in crispyly. Where else the MX300 tends to skid off the fairway.

Not much of topping, but the club head feel like skiding of the fairway.
As for the thin sole it can cut in easily

Seebayho,

I think you have already answered your own question. MX300 is a more forgiving club and is for low to mid handicapper. If you want player's club, you should go for the MP series.

THats cos the MX300 is designed to skid, not to dig. To dig, use a player's iron, like an MP52, MP62, MP58, MP60

Woow, thanks for all the feedback!
I will switch back to my old Maxfli A10 tour, a combo set.
From there I will decide if I should sell my MX300.

my humble opinion :

Perhaps, adjusting to the new clubs, you may wanna focus on ball striking with the new clubs first.

If you strike the ball well and correctly, divot is auto.

My opinion.........

Andrew, I felt taking the divot is easier with thiner sole than thicker sole.
I wonder this is a fact or just my pschological problem?

more often its psychological. i used to have this prob. but when i focus on contacting the ball well, irregardless of clubs, divot is a certainty. i own cast irons and mp58. both have divots cos i am always nagged by my peers to just focus on striking the ball well and hitting "g" spot as often as i can.

again, this is my opinion and experience.

hope it helps

I switched from R7 which is a cast iron and thick sole to mp52 which is forged and thin sole. Took me a month to get used to the new irons, and also to recover from the loss of distance (loss around 10 m for each club).

Just take your time bro. Don't rush to a decision that you may regret. I think mx300 is an awesome irons, but since it's different from your current maxfli set, take your time and practice more.

fully agree with dav.

i went thru that phrase too when i changed from cast to MX23.

Took me 1 month of range almost daily, some coaching lessons and blisters on my hands.

but now looking back, very worth it

playing forged irons in itself........... its another level...

and u will never look back....

the ball just check.. when landed on green.. vs... roll roll roll for cast irons....
