Some chip with very fluid stroke, very much using feel.
Some chip with mechanical stroke.

How do you chip?

It's about feel bro. The problem is that feel comes and go. That's why we need to practice a lot of chipping, so it stay with us.

I begged to differ... I'm more on a mech chipper Razz I estimate the distance and use the clock method for distance control...

I think it all voiced down to each comfort level...

Happy New Year and more birdies, pars to come!!!

Mine's a holy chipper. Whenever I chip, I pray a lot.

Hahaha, I played for 20 years.........still confused!
Personally I prefer "feel" Chipping, but I get better results from mechanical chipping.
This caused confusion and undermine my confidence.

So what shoud I do?

I agree with you, to have the consistent feel we need more practice.

If you want to be a mechanical chipper u can count paces and put your stroke based on the paces you count.
You can see some pros doing that on tv counting some steps.
On the other hand feel chiipping i only realise one thing.. U need to have soft hands and not grip too hard.
Guess TW is a feel chipper.. lazy fellow dosent even count his yardage.. always rely on stevie.. haha

its a mix of the both for myself... hard to put it to words, but for the distances that i want to achieve, together with my desired kind of landing and the course conditions, i play between my wedges; 52°, 56° and 60°. Recently, I have adapted to using my PW and 8 irons for the shots that i need to let it run...

I would recommend mechanical for the "novice" player, and feel shot for the "seasoned" player.

Cuz should the "novice" player choose to feel the chip and have too long a backswing has to kinda decelerate through the impact area. And we all know deceleration through impact leads to weird skulls and chunks.

Oh I'm mechanical by the way. Doesn't explain the quafted hair though Laughing

Happy golfing folks! Smile

With my old iron, i think it was more feel. didn't have to really think about how much to swing.
But after changing to my new iron, have to go clock method. Maybe cause i am not so sure about the feel. but quite some time already leh.. haiz.
