If you're playing off what your nickname suggests, i doubt this is the wisest of choices.

At address position, these irons are not the most confidence boosting tools you could have. They look very 'thin'.. and hence, might favour the lower handicapper 'blade' player.

Don't believe what they say about losing less distance off a mis-hit. You WILL lose distance, and this is inversely proportional to how fast your down swing is. I doubt a high handicapper will have iron swing speeds in excess of 95mph? yah?

In terms of softness, i still feel the Tour Preferred irons are softer, and wayyyy more forgiving. That's why they're in my bag. heh heh.

Anyway, all said and done, if you're really a 24 handicapper, look for something with more 'meat' in the club head. This will promote confidence visually.

Being the Taylormade freak that i am, yes, i've tried the R9, and no, it could not hold a candle to the Tour Preferred irons.

Never seen them before or used them... too poor and unqualified... nevetheless, here some review for u to consider. May be TFP can elaborate why his discourage you from using R9.

Hi,

I tried the R9 irons before at Cathay. Dun quite like the 'feel' and quite hard to hit, as compared to burner 09 irons which is more forgiving for beginnner like me.

I tried at Isetan Scott & i quite like it although I'm playing in the region of 100+.

Maybe didn't go for a full swing and couldn't see the ball flight therefore could not give my full comment.

But I love the head look at address... Smile

R9 TP is out, however, it is only available through custom fitting at TM Cathay, if I am not wrong. Last check, price starts from 1.5k onwards, for 4 to P. There is an upcharge for KBS and PX shafts. Takes ard 3 weeks for the irons to be delivered.

Do check with them again, I managed to test the clubs when i was there i think 2-3 weeks ago. Look for Theodore, I think he is the in house pro and fitter there.
