Never happened to me in the golf course but I've had my ears roasted a little at the beach.

Ears and nose are one of the most vulnerable places to get burnt. But our noses are protected by our head gear most of the time or would have gotten sunblock application already.

Our ears are exposed and not covered by our head gear and many tend to miss that out.

I remember Straits Times ran an article earlier this year. They reported that 85% of skin cancer cases (from a survey on caucasians) occur from neck up, particularly the nose, ears, lips and neck. I actually never put sunblock on my ears before that article, now I do.

Thanks for the heads up.
I normally don't put blocks on my ears too... looks like it's a vulnerable point for sunburnt...

I was watching Padraig and G Ogilvy on Golf Channel, noticed they put on something (lip balm/lip sunblock?) on their lips while waiting for his turn on tee, many times during the round. How many of us put anything on our lips?

I always put sunblock on my ears now after a golfing trip to Batam years ago when they had a club called Paradise Bay I think. My ears got burnt so bad that when it finally peeled and I pulled at an edge of it, the skin came off in a chunk that was about a third the size of the top of my ear. And it was still in the same shape of me ear! affraid
Scared me bad! Now I always apply some. Something about Batam makes it hotter, dunno why.

Also harder to sleep when you have sunburnt ears, hurts when you shift.

it's been my practice to put sun block on my ears / behind my ears and lip block as it's no fun to get burnt unnecessary .... sunny not too late to start now .... Swing

I guess it does makes sense to put lip moisturizer on a hot day... otherwise your lips will crack and bleed if it's too dry. But normally I overcome by drinking more...

No need for golf hats. Just get the cool looking fashion ones from Queensway Shopping Centre. Trilby hats or derby hats all have a rim and are fashionable. Should help some, just ask Slinger, he always wears one.

I don't normally wear sunscreen, but I think I should start.

CP, Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-touch sunblock is a real good one for the body and face as well. Here's the link to a review by a woman. They have more sensitive skin, so if it works for them with no reaction, guys should have no worries whatsoever. I've tried it and it is really dry touch after you work it into your skin. Doesn't come back up to the surface of the skin once I start sweating to leave an oily film. Or leave you looking like a ghost with white streaks all over.

http://www.mywomenstuff.com/2009/03/19/review-neutrogena-ultra-sheer-dry-touch-sunblock-spf50/

Or you can try the alcohol based ones which I've used before. They are a little drying but also leaves no film or a greasy feeling.

Then there are the liquid based ones like Nivea Sun Spray or Sunkiller in a very small bottle.

I do find the alcohol and liquid based ones tend to last only half a round, cos if I don't re-apply, I get a mild sun burn.

The thicker cream based ones work the whole round for me, although I believe we're supposed to re-apply after 9 holes cos of sweat and duration of protection. I generally don't like to apply halfway through the round cos it gets my hands all slippery.

The Aussie Cancer Council ones that are in some country club changing rooms are very effective with no perfume, but they are very thick and hard to work into the skin without leaving white streaks or you looking pale. I found it harder to wash off in the shower too.

And whatever you do, STAY AWAY from the coconut based ones, whole golf course can smell you!!!!

"For you sir, special price...." Whenever they say that, I always ask them back, "special for who? You or me?" ROFL

Anyway, going there this Friday.. Yippee!

Ur right about the air venting Slinger, forgot about that.

As for hats flying off, make sure you get a snug fit, not too loose or just right, sure fly off when you drive the buggy one. And the worst ones to get are the Shingo Katayama or Greg Norman ones, guarantee fly off.

I actually have a nice stylo Shingo type hat from Le Coq Sportif. Wore it for all of the first tee off and took it off. My stupid overswing kept knocking it off. Hooked my first tee shot into the water cos of it. Couldn't see where the ball landed some more cos the hat fell over my eyes. ROFL
