Hmm, I learned something today.... Very Happy

what the powers that be percieve to be true is to be facts for us lowly ants .....

back to the super slow play. once i though that i would speed up the game cause i was slightly behind my flight mate and anther flight was behind me, under pressure i did not think so much and proceed to hit my 5 iron, the hole about 200m (thats what i thought cause my 5 iron is about 150-160m max, misjudged the distance marker). To my delight and horror i hit the ball flush from the thick rough and landed just right of the green where the other flight is still putting. All stared at me but lucky i was too far away ....... just put up my hand to apologized. Lucky i am not so accurate.

Let's not allow self-esteem issues to get in the way of the search of correctness. Media draws a distinction between a hypothesis and fact. It not the same as perception, and never is. We can argue if something is fact from a philosophical point of view, i.e. is the sun REALLY bright? Or just a state of mind?, but i'm sure this isn't what it's about Very Happy

We sometimes create fact from perception. I perceive that someone is being a PITA (my perception), and get annoyed (fact). That's how conflicts sometimes begin -- ah beng perceive you're staring at him, and he gets angry (fact) and you get whacked (fact). Silly, but it happens. I just try not end up in that same trap of perceptions leading to facts Smile

back on topic, tronos, that happened to be once before as well. I got lucky with a 21* hybrid from thick rough (i.e. bird nest) and nailed it 210 m uphill onto a green with 4 elderly gentlemen putting (at WGC too, heng didn't kena BOI). All in the interests of not holding up my flightmates, and I'd never hit a hybrid that far in my life.

There are slow players and there are slow players. The nice thing about golfing in Dubai is that you get a GPS in your cart that not only tells you correct yardage to the pin/hazards, etc, but also tells you if you are ahead or behind. On many occasions, I've been 'caught' behind a 'slow' flight, only to realize that I'm 15 minutes ahead of schedule Razz

That's why some courses you see signage to allow flights to entirely finish their hole before the next flight tees off.

That would be damn slow though Mad

also many times a flight of 2 or 3 may be faster but we (4 balls) are actually playing on pace...still we kena chased

BTW if a flight have female golfer do they get chased?
Also what piss me off more is if my shirt is slightly out, they will remind me ti tuck in, despite the fact the shirt came out cause i was running all the way to quicken the pace......

i get the feeling they target male golfers whom they bosong....

True. There've been times that I just give up a hole and skip the flight in front if there's no flight ahead of them for a couple of holes. I usually get heads-up from the course marhsals, or they speak with the flight in front to let my flight through.

I've been a bit of a hooligan at times though -- there was this one time where a flight of really bad golfers were teeing off from the blues. Took each of them 2 strokes to get to the 250 yd marker, and I was stuck behind them for 4 holes with flights piled up behind me. Got fed up and ripped one that landed 20 yds left of their buggy, and they complained to the marshal. Good thing was, the marshal had been monitoring them for the last couple of holes and his master GPS indicated that they were over half an hour behind schedule and he took them off the course completely. The rest of the round was great -- no traffic at all Very Happy

was waiting for you to jump on that one. Wikipedia has got facts. Things that are not fact are usually challenged, but in principle, since the content is community-generated, one can opt to challenge the fact. That being the case, I invite you to challenge the Wikipedia definition of 'fact' in that particular page.

Now, would you like to cite REAL references for fact, or shall we get back on topic?

if you're getting chased by a faster group, let them pass. No harm, right?

Doesn't matter if the flight has female golfer, male golfer or alien golfer, I'm always fair -- ask to pass, or sit behind and sulk like a kid.

If your shirt is slightly out, try a bigger shirt. Works well for me! Smile

1. check that flight in front has got no one ahead of them for a couple of holes. No point chasing the group in front if they are being held up as well

2. while your flightmates are done teeing off, ask one of them to help you look for your ball, or if your ball is on fairway and theirs is not, drive up to them, wait for them to get your attention (don't talk to them mid-swing), and ask them nicely if they would allow your flight to pass on the next hole. Some golfers can be sticky about this, but most of the people I have met are usually polite enough to notice a faster flight and wave me on, or wait for me on the next hole and ask me to play through. Sometimes, if their flight only has 3 pax, they invite me to join

3. in dubai, there are no caddied, but there are roving marshals. Some marshals are more on the ball, and if they notice that you have caught up, they speak to the flight in front on your behalf and ask them to let you pass (there's no saying no to marshals Smile), otherwise I mention it to the marshal, who then does (1) and (2) above

i meant Marshalls are more kind to female golfers say as compare to ah beng golfers (dress/equipment like pros, play like beginners).... same for elderly golfers... being scolded at to skip the next hole and being ask politely to maybe skip putting is totally different. Also JB marshalls are much nicer than MBGC marshalls (or is it every marshalls are nicer than MBGC marshalls)

In that case, then marshal not doing their job, i.e. keep pace of play smooth for everyone. Elderly, women, etc. It's their job to ask them to let you pass if you are playing faster than they are.

I only played at MBGC once and the marshals weren't difficult with me, so I can't comment on how friendly or unfriendly they are.

Hi Shotah,

We do allow comments pertaining to the sales such as enquiries etc.

The reason why we do not want people to start chatting on the sales chat is some may make use of it in a deliberate attempt to bump the threads and make the whole forum like a classified.

We are however trying to relax on the rules if we can see that it is not due to deliberate bumpings but a couple of forum members seems to be very angry that we do not enforce the rules strictly.

Thus our marketplace moderators have no choice but to monitor them more dilligently. But as you know, this is not their day job, we cannot expect them to be monitoring the forum every single moment to keep it neat and tidy.

I hope this clarifies our stand.

Actually only now I realized that my comment on the ikasu's in being a good set of irons has been deleted, and Yes, I am a little upset.

I looked at other for sale threads. http://www.golfrepublic.org/marketplace-f8/wts-used-adams-pro-gold-hybrid-20-t3441.htm
and I see non-sale related comments still there? e.g "I been using it for almost a year. One of the best hybrid around" ????

What gives?

Hi ssquirel, as i said, those moderators and volunteers are not full time on this. I hardly read the wts/wtb too. Very occasionally when I do, i would help them to post the images etc but normally those threads do not excite me and I hardly view them.

As I said, we do not want to go too extreme on this too and some stuff may slip. We had been trying to relax this rule but unfortunately mervyntan and tlheng seems to be very upset about us not enforcing and thus our volunteers would spend sometimes to scan around. But you cannot expect 100% efficiency.

Like I said, we would still be trying to relax on this rule and maybe do away with it soon.

i just saw this thread, and this post, i would like to clarify that in no time do i seem to be very upset about the mods not enforcing.

i have never mentioned this upfront, i have never said this upfront, so please don't make assumptions, and stop using me as an example to substantiate your claims. please refrain from making such comments which might affect the general perception.

Dear Sunny,

My position is similar to MervynTan, I never complain about your enforcement policy. when I make my firstpost in WTS without pics, I was whack lef/right and centre and you even give me an ultimatum otherwise my post will be deleted. I wrote back to you and says since I have so much trouble trying to load the pics and with due respect to your rules, I withdrew my post.

But when I saw infringement by others and was allowed, I merely ask why the double standards? same as what siaw8 is asking.

It's your forum and I respect your rules set and I am not trying to change them. But enforcment must be imposed fairly, otherwise one will perceived the this forum as favouring certain groups of people which I do not think is the case.

Golf is a game/sport to relax and forum of this nature facilitates golfers to interact and exchange informations. Too much or over zealous policing will kill the free flow of potentially helpful information. Worst case potential contributors will be turned off.

This forum is just another avenue for me as a golfer to share info with others and socialize and get to know others. I have benefited from this forum and previously toonhouse in terms of products info from fellow GRs and also came to know of some good products from BFG that helps to improve my game. If my comments and information sharing is not welcomed, let me know and I will leave.

TLHENG,

thank you for your clarification. You are always welcome and perhaps cos your posts were rather short and 'emotionless' in the past and many ppl thought that you are really upset abt the rules not being enforced.

Like I said, we try not to moderate unless something is very wrong and needed attention. And at times, we try to relax on certain rules. The rules on marketplace chatting are there because there are a number of bad hats who are abusing the system to keep bumping their threads with useless chats and we do not want that happening and make the entire forum look like a classified. However, some q&a and certain comments on the threads are not intended that way and thus we are trying to relax on it but we mistook that you guys are very upset about it which is why some of our moderators helped to clean up most of the threads recently. I said most as they are not full time staff and cannot read every single thread and some of the posts would inevitably be missed out.

We were trying to cut some slack in that area. In fact, we had been considering altering the rules of marketplace for quite a while and we would be finalising them soon.

As you had pointed out, it is not favouritism but rather it is because we do not have full time staff on this and at times, some posts may be missed out. Thus enforcement may not appear 'fair'. It is the parking summon analogy. So many ppl illegal park but only some may get tickets. It got nothing to do with fairness but rather it depends on how many carpark wardens there are. Likewise, we only have a small handful of moderators and it is not quite possible for them to enforce every single rule strictly.

I would like to seek your understanding on this and let such matters slip if it is not too much of a concern. However, if you should feel very strongly about certain posts made and feel that they require immediate attention, feel free to pm me or any of our moderators and we would look into it.

Basically if someone is slow. Skip the hole and overtake. Go back and replay it later. That's what I do

Guys, drop it already.

This thread has gone so far OT that it's ridiculous. Those of you who have a contention with the mods should meet up with them one of these days over coffee and TALK IT OUT. That's right -- FACE TO FACE.

Hiding behind the keyboard and taking shots at each other after the debate has fizzled is instigative, childish, and cowardly. Go to a golf range, meet at a cafe, whatever - it's harder to be contentious in real life, with real people.

Be calm, be objective, listen, and be heard, agree on a way forward, and MOVE ON.

Leave this forum to what it is - an online community for all things golf.

I agree. This thread has digressed too far. I'm locking it. If you need to raise a suggestion on how better to manage the marketplace or have any comments about the moderation of GR, please start a new thread or contact the Admin directly.

Thanks everyone.
