PostSubject: Miura Blade....good or bad....buy or not???   Tue Feb 02, 2010 9:18 pm

Tried the Miura blade today and now seriously considering the purchase.
Contact was ok and my pref. ball flight was with the Shimana Tour Lite shaft combo.
I did not notice any loss or gain in distance also (which is good).

I have never used blades before so I am worried that it would be a lot of effort to maintain proper contact thru out 18 holes...not getting younger No

My coach's advice was that he personally wouldnt use blades cos CB irons are so easy to play with.
He did however said that I could consider getting the Miura blade as my 2nd set.

Any users of blades or Miura please advice...thanks.

How much are you paying for the Miura blades? Are they Miura or Miura Giken?

Miura is the International brand name. The JDM ones (not sure if there is a difference in build quality, but I think not) are called Miura Giken.

As far as I know and have been told by a buddy who's a real JDM guy, the Miura Tournament Blade is similar to the MB-5003s. I haven't tried the Miura Tournament or the Baby Blade but I expect them to be similar to the 5003s.

SGD300 per club? For 8 clubs, that's SGD2400 for a set of 3 to PW! ouch ouch ouch!

For me, blades are 'fine' instruments and hence require a more refined and consistent swing to strike the ball well over 18 holes. I've rarely seen hackers and people with funky swings play well with blades, although I'm sure there are exceptions.

I've played blade irons since I picked up golf, so I've built my game around blades and the more unforgiving nature as compared to cavity backs. Not that I'm THAT good, but I think I strike the ball okay, and blades provide me with the feedback I need to improve my swing and my game.

It would be completely inaccurate to believe that blade irons would improve or hurt one's score, unless one is not used to them in the first place. Anything that you are not used to will feel odd until you get accustomed to it.

Hi Ghook,
I hope that i am the JDM buddy you are mentioning about. I must say i am flattered that i am spoken well of in this circle. I see my name popping up even from DGman. Not that i am cross-dressing or cross-bending yet... but yes.. if ghook is the tour slut... i guess I must be the fiddle-slut as DGman & Jeff will attest to..

I can see that ghook has cast the spell on some fellow members on the allure of Miura irons albeit MG (Miura Giken) - the JDM models & that of Miura Golf (the North America). ghook says it well. I don't believe that's any difference in quality. The key difference between the JDM & the NA models will be the sole given the difference in terrain condition between the continents. The JDM models are more suited for the harder turf conditions that we have in Asia over that of the softer grounds one will expect in that of NA.

The forging process is indifferent. MG has grown from the founder, Mr. Katsuhiro Miura to that of the current 34 workers employed. This also include Miura's family including his son Yoshitaya Miura, whom based on my understanding, heads the NA operations while daddy runs the show back home in Japan. There is a special edition wedge released with the Y-grind (Y for Yoshitaka) which is very pretty to say the least.

The magic of Miura lies in the forging which claims to rearrange the molecular structure of the steel. For my fellow Republicans wondering on forged vs cast.. there isn't much of a comparison. Like all things golf to me, it boils to details however miniscule they are ..
Beyond words, I believe that a picture speaks a thousand words.. Below is the link of the best video which i had seen in my short golfing journey by Kyoei Golf. Handmade from billet to the final product ...

PS : DGMan, please pay attention to the stamping. I believe it will help your business Smile

My scores have gone down a little. But it's hard to attribute it solely to the blades. Saying that, I do have to focus more when using the blades. So concentration is definitely a factor. And now I'm hooked on blades. Very Happy

thanks for feedback.
i was thinking your score might have gone up after switching to blades.
great that it has not and your overall game (score) has improved.
my concern is the concentration cos playing in the heat is tiring for me.
my bad habit is also i do not do practice swing much and would just stand over the ball and whack.
guess i would need to be more conscious of my setup if i am gonna use blade.

thank you everyone for the feedback.

My advice is DON'T TOUCH the Miura's. They are just excellent! No looking back after that.
