PostSubject: Pass the BUTTER...please....   Sun Jul 19, 2009 11:45 pm

Shocked This is interesting .. ...Margarine was originally manufactured to fatten
turkeys. When it killed the turkeys, the people who had put all the money
into the research wanted a payback so they put their heads together to
figure out what to do with this product to get their money back. It was
a white substance with no food appeal so they added the yellow colouring
and sold it to people to use in place of butter. How do you like it? They
have come out with some clever new flavorings....

DO YOU KNOW... the difference between margarine and butter?
Read on to the end...gets very interesting!

Both have the same amount of calories.
Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at 8 grams compared to 5 grams.

Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over
eating the same amount of butter, according to a recent Harvard Medical
Study.

Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other foods.

Butter has many nutritional benefits where margarine has a few
only because they are added!

Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can enhance the
flavors of other foods.

Butter has been around for centuries where margarine has been around
for less than 100 years ..

And now, for Margarine..

Very high in Trans fatty acids.
Triple risk of coronary heart disease ..
Increases total cholesterol and LDL (this is the bad cholesterol) and
lowers HDL cholesterol, (the good cholesterol)
Increases the risk of cancers up to five fold..
Lowers quality of breast milk.
Decreases immune response.
Decreases insulin response.

And here's the most disturbing fact..... HERE IS THE PART THAT IS
VERY INTERESTING! Rolling Eyes

Margarine is but one molecule away from being PLASTIC..

This fact alone was enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and
anything else that is hydrogenated (this means hydrogen is added,
changing the molecular structure of the substance).

You can try this yourself:

Purchase a tub of margarine and leave it in your garage or shaded area.
Within a couple of days you will note a couple of things:

* no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (that should tell
you something)

* it does not rot or smell differently because it has no nutritional value ;
nothing will grow on it. Even those teeny weenie microorganisms will not
a find a home to grow.

Why? Because it is nearly plastic . Would you melt your Tupperware and spread that on your toast?

Share This With Your Friends.....(If you want to 'butter them up')!

Chinese Proverb:
'When someone shares something of value with you and you benefit from it,
you have a moral obligation to share it with others.

Dont eat sharks fin too. They have no additional nutritional value whatsoever.

No difference from the fingernails that you grow out of your fingers and toes.

Some damn farker has been spreading the news that margarine is more healthy than butter.

Now I will only buy butter for my home.

Thanks for the information. It seems logical so far.

As for sharks fin, I never thght of comparing it to finger and toes nails and you are correct. why the hell are we paying premium for toe nails.

Any comments for bird's nest?

Talking about Chinese food:

Abalone is some large disgusting sea-snail.
Sea cucumber is a sea slug.
Hasma (those soft dessert in soup) are the fallopian tubes of frogs

And don't too be too happy with sugar free stuff. Aspartame is still quite controversial.

Yes. Bird Nest is saliva. Same. No nutritional value what so ever. If it is anything, it is like eating harden glue that is cooked? But to me, Bird Nest is still ok. No life is lost. It is done humanely.

Yes. Abalone is a large sea snail. They just eat algae and grow big.

Sea cucumber on the other hand is a mollusk that grows big by consuming the detritus of sea creatures aka the waste of the fishes. Prawns and lobsters too. They grow big by eating algae, microscopic organisms and the poop of the sea creatures. Prawns and lobsters are scavengers too. They eat dying and rotting fish corpses. They keep the ocean really clean.

Want to hear more?

btw, i love my abalone, prawns, crabs, lobsters and seafood. but i just don't condone the shark fins, turtle soup, whale and dolphin meat thing.

What i believe is that the properties of Sharks Fins, Bird Nest and sea cucumbers just have the capability to absorb and retain the flavours of the ingredients that are cooked together with. That is why they appear to taste so nice.

Turtle soup, abalones, prawns and lobsters are a different thing.

btw, i do not condone the above-mentioned foods due to the inhumane way of harvesting them.

MC.. don't be so animal activist lah.. have u been affected by PETA's publicity campaigns??

most foods are inhumanely cultivated, to the point where if you really think about it, you would suffer everytime you eat. even vegetables cause misery amongst the farmers who harvest it, and on a macro level, there is a significant amount of pollution and various other environmental problems caused by vegetable farming alone.

i think culturally, the chinese are used to eating such stuff, and thus, whilst the inhumane ways of cultivation do not justify the means, the current method of cultivation is the easiest and most profitable to them, and thus, we have no choice but to accept.

of course, we can go the other route and choose to take the ethical way, but where do you draw the line when you choose to go ethical? when you choose not to eat shark's fin due to the cruelty of throwing the sharks into the water, do you also choose not to eat chicken due to the way that they intensively farm chicken and subject them to constant intense agony for the short 20+ days that they live? do we also not consume organic beef for the intense carbon load that they put on the carbon cycle??

it is difficult to draw a line and justify one's stand when pushed to the limits, so... after talking so much cock..

i believe.. just eat whatever makes u happy lah..
