Definitely hybrid. Makes this game so much easier and enjoyable to play. Sure, not feeling that macho-feeling when you're pulling a 2- or 3-iron outta your bag. But I sure not feeling dumb either after a terrible mishit with those long irons... Razz no offense, long-iron hitters!

Seriously, I usually get the last laugh when such contest is on... Laughing

There are pros and cons for both hybrid & long irons..

since I use long irons.. i'll share my point of view... for long irons.. you have more control on your shots.. be it its trajectory, drawing or fading the ball... for example a 200+yrds par-3.. narrow par 5 fairway with uneven lies... or maybe a long approaching shot from the rough.. long irons comes in handy.. IF you are able to handle them..

As for hybrids.. you can't really control the ball trajectory.. & on an uneven lie.. it's harder to shape a shot according to ur needs.. in the rough.. worse.. it is wut it is.. good thing abt it is that it's more forgiving.. ON a perfect lie..

Out of curiosity, what handicap are you playing on? No offense, Dude... I am just curious and I am sorry if you take it the wrong way...

Actually...I dont use my long irons to hit long shots. It is actually used as a "rescue" where by I use it to punch the ball back into the fairway. Because I tend to reguarly find myself in alot of waste harzards surrounded by trees... 1/2 - 1/4 swing to keep the ball flight low.

Sometimes I even use my 3I to chip & roll to get onto the green especially when the pin is at the back. silent

Got it, that's exactly what I can do with my 3 irons. in fact, that's all I can do with my 3 iron. Hit 5 irons well. Hit 4 iron reasonably well, I'd say 70% of the time. But never been able to hit 3 iron that good. 10 years on the golf course and I hit 3 iron so pure just once, I can still remember everything about it! Wink

actually i have retired my 3i n 4i but solely use my hybrid for certain long par4s or par3s........ i hit my hybrid abt 170-180m

in my assessment, there are only few long par4s (index holes) n even fewer long par3s (abt 190-200m) that i know of (in sg), thus i see no need for the longer irons when my hybrid can give me the distance n accuracy.....in any case i would be happy to walk away with a bogey for those holes if i cant get up n down when i miss the green...... who wouldnt want to par those par4s but i know my limitations, i just prefer damage control

With the poll now standing at 6 for long irons vs 11 for hybrids, I must that I'm a little surprised. I had long suspected that upwards of 80% would prefer hybrids but it doesn't appear to be the case here. Guess some of us here are just plain old school. Will be interesting for all 16 who responded to post their next sets of scores to see how we all fare.

I am not old school. It is just that I only picked up the game 6 months ago and I am using an old set graciously lent to me by a good friend. His set dosent come with hybrids, only long irons so have learnt how to use it but not proficient in using it. I have only recently borrowed 2 hybrids from another friend so now just trying out all my options and if I really want to pursue this game further, will look into buying a set of own.

Winston: Careful how far you take this 6 month old hobby of yours. Leave before you become consumed by the dark side.....

Thanks for the advice TNRM, however I am quite sure it is too late....... affraid What a Face Love the game. Just giveing myself time to try to get some consistency in my swing and then look into investing in a set. Sp far, the only club that is mine is a Nike Untizied Leo putter I bought last month at the Isetan Sale. Now am trying hard to fight the itch... HELP
