Hi,

which retail outlets can we go to for expert advice (instead of general sales advice) on SC putters selection? e.g. what models/shaft offset matches with my putting stroke? Thanks.

DGMan sells Ikasus and Zen Putters. Yes. He does club fitting.

But because Eric is a serious golfer and he actually does play golf at the golf course, he knows what works and what does not. His extensive SC collection and experience with putter R & D also contributes to his knowledge. I ever dare to say he does put money where the mouth is.

That is why he is my Master.

If u go shopping at golf house (marina or suntec), can try to look for jeff goh, the in house fitter. I brought my SC futura phantom (35") to shorten and he advised against it. He was patient and explained why it is best to leave it as it is. And to top it off, he spent an hour chatting with me on shafts and golf in general and tat is me without spending a single cent in the shop. Gd fellow and shld be able to help u in your selection.

Hi guys, thanks for the advice. Smile

MC, well basically I am not too sure about my putting stroke to start with...haha...not sure whether to do a little forward press or go neutral thus can't tell which model/shaft offset is more natural for me...

When I try to forward press, it seems to impart some side spin and makes the ball curve to the left towards the end. But it sure does roll better. Neutral on the other hand goes straight but does not roll as well...on top of that, I would have better confidence with forward press, if it does not spin left... Question

If I may suggest, go to BFG Bukit Merah, and try different putter heads. If you any style (mallet, etc) also ok then get DGMan's help you to identify which putter suits your stroke. Mind you that I do not work for him neither I am paid by him, in fact I only ended up spent
ding money there Sad ... Well worth it though!

hi Denis

i would sugest you consider took up 1 or 2 lesson with a pro, focus on your putting and maybe, the pro could also advise you on which model or shaft offset is more suitable for you, base on your setup and putting stroke

next to it, you can always drop by BFG, talk to DGman and he can give you some good advise also...

enjoy the game

Thanks MC...but hor still no stock for you....

Putter Fitting is the easiest and yet the most complex of all fitting.

easy because all the fitter have to do is stick a putter of the right length and lie for the golfer and that should work.

complex because we cannot get the golfer to adopt the same stance and the same putting stoke every time he or she goes onto the putting green.

most of the golfers who come through gets the same advice. work on a routine, align (and make sure your ball is in the same position), get a consistent setup and putt the same way for every hole. whether you use a gate path or square path or a combination (for long and short putt), stick to your game plan.

generally if you are pulling or pushing your putts (or you feel that the toe of your putter is too upright or your putter heel is hanging) its time to make an appointment.

Most putters especially the better makes are milled from 303, carbon steel or other softer material so its hosel are easily bend when the golfer throws his putter, stand and lean the weight on the putter while waiting for his or her turn to putt, or just simply during transportation. This is easy to tell...just set up your putter naturally on a semi hard floor, if it shuts, the loft is too weak, if it opens, the loft is too strong. too strong or too weak a loft can lead to a lot of sliding instead of getting the ball to roll. it will also add to your woes of controlling distance and speed.

all putters are made different but adhere to a set principle - shaft onset and offset (like 1/2 or full shaft onset or offset) - this determine setup and the moment of impact (not MOI), hosel position creates the visual framing of the ball at set up but more importantly determine the face balance which pre-determine the type of stroking required.

for more info you can either PM me or call us for an appointment.

for those who have experienced putter fitting, please feel free to tell us about your experience.

The golfer makes the putts, not the putter.

No putter can fix a faulty stroke. It might minimise the fault at hand with a higher MOI for off centre rolls but thats just about it.

As much as everyone putts differently, getting the right fit requires the golfer to understand basic fundamentals like grip, alignment, posture, hand position and weight distribution. The way the stroke is (SBST, arc, inside down-the-line etc) is another debate altogether.

To do that, a qualified PGA teaching professional can assist you.

He/she will also be able to tell you whether your putter will suit your stroke.

My putting stats has improved dramatically after a visit to a SAM machine last year and a putting lesson. It made me understand the basics and how a stroke is suppose to be. Putting now is just thinking about line and pace rather than the stroke itself.

With a proper stroke, choosing a putter will be what feels good to you rather than what makes putts.

As you can see, putting is not only an art, its also a science that many either are not aware of or just don't pay enough attention to.

Concentrate on this aspect of your game and your scores will take a turn for the better.

I was contemplating a visit to a pro too, just that obviously he would not have various models for me to try out while he sees to my putting stroke...so I thought, it would be great if there is some place that can get both the technique corrected & identified and equipment matched at the same time...much like the club fitting station Smile

Perhaps I should first go to a pro for technique, then DGman's for fitting specs, then retail shop for the putter... White Flag

I have not seen putter fitting at Big Fish but I have seen it at Mark Higgs's.
Pretty impressive stuff as he would use video technology to see how you contact the ball, lie, face angle etc
Mark has an interesting putting surface too as you walk in the shop.

You could look at Phil Mickelsen's DVD where he talks about forward press, training aid (putting plate & laser), hitting down, hitting up......interesting segment on putting.

i like that Rex....hopefully we will have the SAM when you come back next.

A lot of golfers think that if they buy whatever they see on TV, they will putt well. Most professional golfers practice hours each day on the putting green. It is the most significant part of the game and it is what separate the guys on the Nationawide and PGA tour.

Padraig Harrington is a golfer who have found the benefit of using SAM both in his lessons as well as his fitting.

I've used SAM putt lab and it is one of the best things man has created! Unfortunately I don't have access to one. Looks like I'll be dropping by DGman's den pretty often in the future if he gets one

hellos Justin....we will not be getting the SAM....

we will be using the break 30 with SAM Putt Lab, its a proprietary training and fitting solution that's owned by Zen Oracle UK.

check this out: Break 30

so that will explain why uncle got to go to Sheffield in the summer then get the system in place.
