Was watching golf channel and they indicated that Michael Campbell (ex- major champion) has a current average driving distance of 232 yards!! Isn't that kinda short? How have the mighty fallen....

It is possible. They count the drive only when your ball hits the fairway.
He could be missing alot of fairways with his driver and only hitting them with his 3 wood or Irons.

i read somewhere that 2 holes in 18 will be used to average the driving distance per round in tournament events.

the 2 holes are usually straight and in opposite directions to negate wind effects.. but whatever..

anybody read this too?

I think you don't need to drive far to be a major champion. You need to drive straight and consistent and do well in your short game. good putt

when he won the US open, I think his average for that year was 281 yards.
He is kinda low in ranking now not only avg distance but fairway %, GIR % as well.
probably not playing a lot now, hopefully with more games his avg will go up.

on pagtour.com, michael campbell only recorded 2 rounds of golf at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
This could explain his low average driving distance average as he could have used irons or hybrid or fairway wood for those holes that were used to compute the avg. dist.

Extract:
Driving Distance 238.8 189th
Tot. Dist. - 955
Tot. Drvs. - 4
Driving Accuracy Percentage 53.57% 173rd

Tot. Rnds. - 2

An unnamed buaya uncle who used to be on this forum dun hit very far, but he's dead accurate under 150 metres with his irons, wedges and putter.

Many an unsuspecting kaki has lost money to Uncle ***, many could out drive him by 50+ metres or more.

Shocked

He played much better a few times when playing against some GRians awhile ago according to his own accounts, and a few who played with him and his 'brothers'.

Maybe cos he asks for many strokes!

Dunno.
