yup.its a good way to mould your swing before you go to a complete swing...could start from 5oclock back swing..then move to 3 oclock..and finally the
full one..progress accordingly..taking it slow every time....this is
to my understanding...any supporting views guys?

Hi Maxismm,

Are you referring to a 3/4 backswing with full rotational speed and finish or a controlled 3/4 shot?

i refer the shot with control, i always control my back swing a little bit lower than 3/4,and just keep the follow through as nature as i can, i wanna feel the club head speed and optimize the contact.
i used to over swing or drop during backswing...after some drill of 3/4 swing my contact is much pure than before, and its seens like more easier on some difficult lie.

I use the 3/4 controlled shot quite often as well, usually from inside 100m, e.g. 80m for me is a controlled PW, not a full SW. I also use it quite a lot when I have difficult lies, or in fairway bunker where good contact is absolutely crucial.

My only problem is that sometimes I will hold off the release because of trying to control the speed which causes the ball to go slightly right, but it is manageable and seems to work well for me.

I agreed that some of us may feel that 3/4 swing give us a better contact most of the time cos I notice that most of the 3/4 swing is actually a full swing. When my coach ask me to do a 3/4 swing, and infact it was my full swing that shown on video.. So nowaday, I always tell myself to do a 3/4 swing... It does help on better contact as well as distance...

but wat would be a actually 3/4 swing. 9pm- 3pm?

Hi rc311,

For me, the back swing and follow through are slightly shorter than full, but my rotation through the swing is also slower, I don't really think about the 9-3 thing ... but hey that is just me, we all swing different, so use whatever works for you, and your coach is defintely the best person to answer your queries about what a 3/4 shot for you should look and feel like.

my 3/4 swing would be more on my backswing and follow thru to complete.

9-3 would be a half swing to me.

yup,agree...! sometime if we 'forget' to release our hand will send the ball to right, the other problem is if our left shoulder lift before contact(shoulder turn too early) also send the ball to right hand side!
