with the clubs u have, as long as the par 5 is less than 500m, u should be able to GIR.

How well do u hit ur hybrid? if ok, then consider getting something longer. if not, practise with the current hybrid first

I'm ok with the hybrid, better than my irons.. so yeah.. I dun mind getting something longer..

Anyone selling their #2 hybrid? haha

[quote="4dtoto"]See Computer too long, very confusuing, let me re-list :-

1. Driver - 200m
2. 23deg Hybrid - 150m
3. 5i - 140m
4. 6i
5. 7i - 130m
6. 8i
7. 9i - 110m
8. PW
9. AW ( 52deg) - 85m
10. LW ( 60deg) - 65m
11. Putter

I think you have SW as well right? So you still have 2 more slots. I think buying hybrid is a lot better investment than wood for beginner. It can be used on more hazard... If you want wood, buy 5 wood or 4 wood...

Hi guys/gals, ....

1. Driver - Taylor Made R9 , S Flex. (Average 190-200m <inclusive roll>, 6-7/10 shots)
2. Irons - Taylor Made Burner 09 (5I ~140m, 7I~130m, 9I~110m)
3. Wedges - Nickent 60 deg ARC (~65m) and Cleveland G15 (~85m) 52deg zip grooves.
4. Putter - Ping
5. Hybrid - Nickent 3DX #4 , 23deg (~150m)

All the distance are based on the balls in OCC.

I am considering to buy a wood but which one? Or should I just get a #3 hybrid instead. I'm starting to get ahead of myself here... so any advice is greatttttttttt!!! share pls..

Bro,

I am yet a good player as you can see all my posts but this is just my 2 cents though that I would like to share. In fact, your short irons driving distance is similar to mine until the 7 iron. I felt that your i5 shall reach 150m and i6 at 140m ( seems your 7i is 130m than about 10m increase on each longer club sound logic ).

I understand you are using a #4 hybrid and once again it shall carry more than just 150m. Of course, everybody has a different body build but if your short irons distant is similar to mine than I am sure I am similar build and strength as you too.

I would suggest that you work on your 5i, 6i and existing hybrid and found what you can really do to max these club drive distant. Longer iron or club is most difficult to hit solid a far as I am concern, not to mention fairway wood would be worse.

I would say, you do have a problem if you have any 4 par that is over 380 m. Well, if your driver give you about 200m (including roll), you left with 180m to hit GIR .. none of your club can reach this distance. I guess if you can drive 190-200m with your driver, you should able to hit 180m with a 3 wood but 3w is difficult to hit consistence. I carry a 3w but I can only hit 50% success with it on fairway so I hardly use it unless it is wide open green with no hazard and my driver did not get me the distance I need for a par 4. I use more of my 3w on the tee box, when I have a shorter par 4 or fairway is tight with having hazard on both left and right side of fairway.

I carry 2 hybrid ( a #4 with 22 loft and a #2 with 19 loft ). Please also note that hybrid do not replace fair wood but rather replace long iron like i2 or i3. You might consider in getting a #2 hybrid but work on your #4 hybrid to see how far you can really hit it with.

Good luck .. My message might screw up you further .. it is a share of though .. the best is to work with a pro Laughing

Slicer51, your post is very wordy. Took some time to digest. I've ever hit a 170 with my hybrid before on 'perfect' contact but that's really rare (think flying cow). Maybe I should explore that further and try to increase the mileage of existing clubs.

Between my 6i and 5i I don't see much diff in distance so again maybe my swing for these clubs are not correct.

Seems like a good idea to head to range today and work on these 3 clubs.

Thank you for that sound advice. Appreciated Wink

Mebbe a 19* hybrid might help improve your confidence for those longer shots.

Which brand? Try to hit as many as you can before you decide. Everyone has an opinion on which is the best but yours is the one that matters most.

I think its perfectly acceptable to be playing more than 14 clubs during casual, non-betting rounds. You will have some time to try out a club you might be unfamiliar with or do some other club-testing. That will also help determine what combo will be the best set-up for you.

I played y'day's round with 2 sets of wedges and 2 drivers. Just for the fun to see if things work out differently.

Bro,

You are just being nice by using the word "wordy". I think I am more like "long winded old man". Please excuse me for my lousy English. Expressing in English is one of my weaker subject from school till now. Sorry Embarassed Embarassed

Do bear with me one more time. 170 m carry on your #4 hybrid is respectable as far as I am concern (I know many good player here can hit further ). Believe me, I have the same problem when my both i6 and i5 have the same distance before but it good to cover the gap 140m if we can hit 130m with i7 and 150m with i5.

So, what about 160m ? use a i4 ? maybe just by holding your hybrid short by 2 " might help too. I suggest to borrow some #2 hybrid, i7 & i5 wood clubs from your golf buddy or pro shop to try them out and get feedback how well you hit them and also distance. You might not even need a 3w after all.

Begbie,

It seems to me that your more comfortable in your hybrids so you could play more on that and remove irons out from your bag. Like Bro S70B said, try to bring more different clubs during a social game and try them on the greens as hitting a range ball is very different as the state of the ball is generally in a bad shape and low in compression so your distance could be out and the ball flight too.

You could also visit a club fitter with a trackman or another kind of golf simulator to check on your Swing speed, at the same time check your swing path too. A wrong kind of shaft ie Weight, flex on your clubs would do more harm on your game. Ball fitting is also important, based on your swing speed you could get the right ball with the right compression to maximize your distance too.

Last but not least

Get a coach Cool

whats yr score like? do u blow holes? do u do course management?

why buy clubs when u have no confident hitting, as yet?

at this moment I'm not keeping score. Just wanna take one shot at a time. Trying to keep committed with every shot. I find that real diff with so many variations of the game. But I try to keep that drill as much as I can Wink

personally, its tough to tell u what u need when we dun know your playing level? are u a noobie, do u break 90? kinda fill us in what u looking for in golf....

distance is overrated if one has no control, i rather be consistent in my game than trying to be a hero... once i find my comfort playing level, then i work towards better score, then golf will be enjoyable....again jmho

I like your post tho its wordy, its a very sensible approach to what I am actually trying to bring into my game and hence, today I went to the range.

I tried my #4 hybrid, and well.. it hit the 168m board inclusive roll(10/20 shots roughly) . Some of the rest topped or fat shots. maybe I wont need that #2 hybrid for now. But when I get consistent with that #4 and getting more straight shots, I may just get a #2 hybrid.

On top of that all my other irons seems to be hitting further today too by about 5-10m. However, my 5i and 6i not much diff still.

So next time I go range, i will work on my 5i, 6i and hybrid and I just might go range again tomorrow!!!

Thanks bro.. you rock!

Bro Begbie,
It is great to know that you feel confidence and nice when you walked out of the driving range today. Training hard is good but training correctly will be more important .. Hitting 100 or 1000 balls in driving range might not improve the swing unless you are learning every swing you are doing ..

The faster way to ensure you are doing it correctly .. do try to get a pro instructor to look at your swing. A good instructor will able to help to fix whatever the problem and also provide some good drills to help .. Good luck
