sure all small amounts make a big amt but many big amts make a bigger amt and i am sure the charity organisation will appreciate just a personal opinion and btw do u have licence to call it a charity event be very careful there might be alot of implications juz as a word of warning, there must be an appointed audit committe if that is so and they need to be independent and be remunerated so tat everythin is documented so tat all the players like us know how much is contributed at the end of the day after all admin costs. Remember nkf out of every dollar i used to donated 10 cents goes to help the poor, tats ridiculuous. Dun mind me sayin my humble opinion and i m interested to participate

hi golfguru,

This event is not a public solicitation but a private event and thus do not require a license. We are not soliciting for money.

The event is very clear and unlike NKF which has overheads and other cost, ours is strictly the cost of organising a tournament. We have decided earlier of collecting a token sum from members to contribute to the charity.

Why should we appoint and remunerate an independent auditor? The contributions are actually personal effort from members. If we appoint such auditor, there would be nothing left for charity. We are not NKF and we are not collecting a million dollars. All in all, the events would only bring about 1k plus to the charity and we want to make it a regular feature of our forum. In the future, all our internal tournament, we would ask members to contribute a token sum to our adopted charity.

Think of it this way, if you company want to donate a sum to a charity, do they go around appointing auditor to check the amount? The answer is no. Most would just say, those who wish please contribute $10 or $20 and we will pool the money for the charity.

Basically we are just a forum and these contributions are just personal donation from members like the abovementioned case.

And for your information, our adopted charity, Autism Association (Singapore) has IPC status and can offer tax-deductible receipt for anyone who contribute significantly. If you are worried so much about money coming into our pocket, you can always issue a cheque directly to the organisation and pass to us and pay for the green fees ($130) separately.

well...if he is interested, he can always contribute more to charity. As stated, one part of it is green fees and administrative fees which is a must to pay. We set the sum to charity to be a token as this will be personal contribution and not corporate. Of cos we could always do a 2k per flight things but how many ppl would participate? This is not a public charity drive and we are targeting individuals (friends) who are willing to give something back to the society. $20 dollar is just a start. We do not restrict ppl from donating more.

For those who are donating more, Autism Association (Singapore) would be issuing official receipt. This again would reinforce the point that NEITHER the forum NOR the organisers would profit from it.

Hi All,
Thank you for the interest in the Charity event. By no means are we restricting donations to the prescribed amount. We are more then willing to accept cheques, cashiers order and cash. We have had players that have needed to pull out from this game after the date change as they cant make the 21st date. And yet they are still donating.

Should any participant be uncomfortable with arrangements. Your suggestions and concerns are dully noted. As this process has been on going for the great part of the last 5 weeks, I fear we are unable to heed any request to alter the arrangements as they are now.

In terms of why this particular course was chosen? Well, almost anyone can walk onto MBGC for a game. Walking into a members course without the need to be a member, seems far more appealing given the pricing we are paying. Additionally, the course management team have been exceptionally gracious and have been actively helping us to make this event possible all the while being mindful of the cost limitations and the intentions of the game in the first place.

I would like to thank the key organising team:
MC - This is the second time I know of that he has handled the finances. Bearing in mind the first time resulted in him being out of pocket himself.
Sunny and MissMoon - Thanks for working all the logistics. Your dedication to the event is exceptionally commendable. Besides your normal day jobs and your administration of the forum; you have managed to find time to work this event as well, Thank you.

I apologise for not being able to help out more, do feel free to call on me if you need an extra pair of hands.

Hi Golfguru,

Thank you for your comments. It is very much appreciate.

As you maybe aware, this event is never intended to be a ultra big scale kind of charity drive. It all started as a small get togather game for the forum members until someone suggested to make it into a more meaningful get togather by collecting a couple of tens more from each participating player to donate to the charity. Nevertheless, to prevent any form of ambiguity and promote transparency, we have set up a small committee with each member being in charge of certain responsibility, ie MC collects money, Sunny with the booking, S70B with the communication and independent committee like G_man. I agree this is not enuff, but given that it is a small event, i think its better not complicate things. Of coz, if this small little event ever mutate into a bigger event, we will make sure that more controls are put in place.

Last but not least, i would like to put it crudely - if you have your doubts, dun join. Its as simple as that.

GG's points are valid ones. However, I don't see a big difference between our event and a flight of 4 players saying that they'll contribute $10 each to a charitable organization after their game (except that we'll have more players).

One thing which everyone who participates needs to realize is that this is largely based on trust. While we have some checks and balances, we rely on the good character of our organizers. This is our first GR game and rather than just playing together on a large scale, it made sense for a portion of the funds to go towards a charitable cause.

Ultimately, everyone wants to do what is right and fair. There are no wrong opinions here. What siaw said is also true in that with the caveat above made clear, everyone is free to participate if they wish or sit out if they wish. If people are uncomfortable with the way it is managed, they are entitled to their opinion.

Perhaps in time to come, we'll have more users on the forum and a more structured way to handle these kinds of events. Until that time, I think the organizers have done a kick-ass job. It isn't easy trying to coordinate with so many players (particularly as MC was traveling when he was doing so).

A lot of effort has gone into getting this inaugural game going. For what it's worth, I'm sure we'll have heaps of fun. It's a great way to get to know each other and at the end of the day, if we can help out a charitable cause (even if our help is small), it's all worthwhile Smile

As I said several posts before... the organizers are amazing! Awesome job, folks. Keep up the good work and don't hesitate to ask for help if needed! Smile
