PostSubject: Can't cope w/o a Tee   Sun Jun 20, 2010 11:19 pm

I realised I have a problem. I cannot hit the ball without it being on a tee.

I am into my 5th lesson with the coach and still using the tee.

However, I really wanna try hitting the ball from the ground.
But I just can't!!

What is my problem?
I do not want to be over reliant on the tee.

Yes, I am.
But I did tell myself to cast those worries aside.
Yet, can't do it.
The ball will just fly straight and land within the 50m mark. -_-"

Actually there is a layer of foam rubber thus it is not that bad.
Of course if you drive straight down then u will look like one of those Tom & Jerry cartoons.

Which range do you go to?

hmm then in that case, ur coach shld have not let u keep on using tee to practise right?

a good alternative is maybe can try OCC range. cos their lanes r equipped w auto feeder which u can adjust e tee to very low height. so u can gradually reduce e tee height n eventually not depend on it.

but still, i feel that u shld get ur coach to correct u. dun forget, u pay $$ 1 leh.
can u imagine? now u depend on tee. scarly next time u overcome it, then u start to do e opposite how? i.e have to hit w/o tee. Razz

Could it be you are hitting the ball and not swinging the club? With the tee even if you hit down on the ball the ball usually can still fly a little. In any case start practising else you may just end up too used to hitting off the tee.

Or use a low tee almost non existent tee.

You can go buy those 3 in one pack of rubber tee or the adjustable ones.
I know one height will be around 2 cm usually for FW, another is around 1cm for anything else i guess.

girl, u started your lesson with tee using iron ?

honest speaking, hope u dnt mind, personally i think that is not a good start...maybe you should have a talk with your coach on this matter.

I would suggest this :

Use a shorter tee, like what aural mention, those 3 in 1 adjustable tee, use the shortest one, and when you place it under the mat, you should see the tee would just slightly above the mat surface and try swing your club and hit the tee, dnt place any ball there, just practise your swing and focus on hitting the tee.

Once you are comfortable with the swing and consistently hiting the tee, then move on to hit the ball w/o the tee.

Good luck..all the best

Good advice Snowman. That's what I usually do too. I have a short rubber tee which I always put onto e mat at r range which I'll practice off fr time to time.

The very first instructor that I went to started the whole bunch of us off on a PW without a tee. We were total noobs (think golf virgins) then, and one gal in the gang basically lost interest as the lessons progressed on as she felt that she wasn't hitting the balls at all (the balls just "committed suicide" without any flight at all).

The second instructor we went to for a trial lesson had us on tee, and he explained that its easier to hit the balls on a tee, and that newbies won't be discouraged (can hit the ball then will "feel good" and thus have the interest to carry on). He changes the tee as the lessons progresses on to the shorter ones, he finds that his students are able to cope with minor adjustments until finally they can hit without tee.
