Watever u say Ben. Those are your beliefs and they remain rightly so. I think those who play the game alittle bit more than leisurely here in this forum still believe that you cannot fit a total beginner if they have no clue of the swing in the 1st place.

We may not have attended any Institutes of Sport or 6hr PGA show lectures but I think we are logical in our thinking.

BTW, my wife was fitted by your dad 5-6 years ago when she was a total beginner. She got so frustrated w the game she stopped for awhile. Picking it up again recently, she is still struggling with her swing as of today.

Her clubs are still fitted for her properly.

I would belive that if this is the case my dad would like to see her, and see what has gone wrong.

She is taking lessons thank you. Nothing is wrong. There is gradual progress but not the kind that will make her excel in Canberra.

Honestly, she hits OTR callaways and burner irons with equal results as her fitted clubs. That proves my point that fitting doesn't do anything for a beginner if she doesn't know how to swing it and what goes on in a swing in the 1st place.

Prostance looks like another gimmick to me. With the putting example, its his pendulum motion with his shoulders that would be causing his weight to move all over the place. It is a reaction to his spine angle tiliting back and forth. Will this aid magically change his putting motion?

AXIV, please see your PM, I have replied to you and I still don't know why you want to reply me via PM and not on the thread.

Anyway, my point is I do not agree with you at all. Sorry about it.

I think you are doing your dad some justice by saying "good club fitters are the best educaters". THey are good but they just don't get enough recognition. But like what you said, if they are the best educaters, then i think tiger should just stick to his club fitter and fire Hank....

I would say tat a beginner can be fitted for the length and the grip or maybe weight of club, ie, things that do not really change much. once the swing is better, there should be a review to see if the clubs need anymore tweaking, maybe tats when the change of shaft or adjusting lie comes in. Unless u are learning from RSC.

Its like going for an operation and going back for review...

Just my take on club fitting for beginners.

My question is: For a beginner are you doing a static fit or a dynamic fit? If they are a beginner they won't really have a swing that they can repeat with any regularity. As weesern mentions, get them the right length and grip, then review it down the track. There is also the cost issue. As a beginner, do they even know if golf is the game for them. They go out and spend all this time and money and then discover that they enjoy tennis more. Big waste.

To answer honestly, yes. It was co designed with Padrig Harrington. He has won 3 majors since using this aid. I would say he putts quite well. Paul Hurrion who's company developed it has over 70 touring professional using it.
Most of the best teachers in Singapore are using it from what I have seen while playing at different clubs. I have seen video footage of Lam Chi Bing (he owns one) using thye force plates and prostance. First Singaporen to play in a world golf championship. Not bad for a gimmick.

I think the general consensus is Club Fit is important but only when you have a repeatable swing. Otherwise, it is better to spend the money on a coach.

i have arrange for LCB to attend some working session with my putting mentor, Nick Middleton who heads the Break30 academy in UK. they use the SAM system over there. LCB has some issues with his current stats and i think whatever he is using now is not working too well for him at this point.

this is happening late this year when he goes to play in scotland.

Another question is do you fit your customers on a range or in a net?

if someone juz took up golf lesson, does he/she need a custom set? hmmm dun think so ba, overkilled....
but i feel that doesn't mean he can juz take up any club and learn... at least depends on his age, height, built, etc... cant possible ask a young boy to take a adult length stiff club or a big strong man to use a ladies club.. but a appropriate 2nd hand set will do.
As what some say, tht person must learn to swing 1st (no one can juz pick up the club n swing like tiger woods) and understand more on the swing itself 1st..

After the person goes through the lesson and understands the swing better, and know their style (fast, slow, etc) then i think he is more ready to custom fit a club...
speak to the fitter on their thoughts, tempo, etc.. and from there, i believe the club fitter's experience will help..

tht wat i feel... not a club fitter myself, not a pro, not a low hcp.. but juz yr everyday average golfer's thoughts..

Dear All,

Mr Mark Higgs just called me and wish to clarify that his son Ben who is back home for the school holidays has without his dad's knowledge begin posting his views on club fitting.

i am sure we can all understand that young Ben (AXIV) is an enthusiastic young man who is trying to express what he have learn from the manuals, books and watching from the sidelines. please excuse him for his posting and do not take it to heart as it is not coming from Mark's view on club fitting versus swing coaching.

we hope to hear from Ben about how he plays to a low single handicap and about his engineering course in Australia. who knows, he might be able to bring some of us out when we visit down-under.

I hope this will end all the controversy surrounding this post and we hope Ben will have a safe journey back to Australia soon.

Have a great day everyone...

Don't agree with what?
Who;s the best educator?
Who the hell is Hank?
Who is Tiger???

I am so confused. Anyway, Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one. But seriously, who the hell is Hank, have I met him before???
