When I read this, the first image that came to my mind was CISCO traffic officers escorting some heavy machinery in the middle of the night...

Maybe with that caravan, you might need to apply for permit from MOT, LTA and indent for CISCO escort!

dun think there's any branded continental car at $100k (unless used)....

if $110k is your budget then the jetta would be your choice....

of cos at $110k, there are other jap cars worth considering....

There is one brand..Citroën. Almost bought it their c4 grand picasso even put down deposit until they told me change specs. LL cancel order.

100k today car price cannot really get big jap cars. COE for big cc is just too high.

Folks, seeking your views

I am re-opening an old topic. I am currently on a look out for a new set of wheels, and boot space for putting golf bag is a must. I want to seek the thoughts of existing owners based on your experience

Requirements
(1) Continental makes preferred - VW, BMW, Audi, Lexus (ok, they are jap)

(2) Boot Space - must be able to put 2 stand bags (without taking out driver - the club, not me!) or 1 cart bag
--> My current ride, a 3-series can meet this requirement

(3) 7-seater MPV not preferable (VW Touran ok), SUVs (Q3, Q5, X1, X3, RX series) are ok, sedans preferred (F10, A6, Passat CC)

(4) Rear seating must be able to sit 3 (those sportback with a center console at the rear is out), and leg room should avoid the spine in the middle, a low spine is tolerable, flat floorboard (RX270, 300, 350 etc) is ideal

(5) need to go from 0-100kmph in 5 seconds or less... ok this one optional

We saw a nice lightly used Q3 but I have doubts about the boot space (I will bring the golf bag next time I go to the show room). Any suggestions? should I cast a wider net? happy to hear your thoughts

Thanks.

Bro

X3 is underpowered. Else get the new series. GT series. 328 with horse power of about 240.

Plenty of boot space. Plenty of leg room behind also

C class got new model (facelift?) in later half of this year
But I thought its too close to my current ride

The new B class perhaps.

Volvo, I dunno... When I was younger I always wanted a Saab. Not anymore...

Reliability of cars :

Bmw rank 7 from bottom.
Mercs rank 3rd on top.
Audi rank 5 from bottom.

Take your pick.

Bro. .

Was just wondering if you gonna take the bite after last week. ...

Forget about the Qs due to infamous gear issues. .

You should make a change for a suv.. The volvo x 60 is pretty hip. X5 or 6 is no mistake. . Or even better the cayenne. ..

But if you must have the sedan,  the 535 GT has plenty of legroom n boot space. And it's in sub 5 sec as of your requirement. .  But I had problems when going for my Bak kut teh in that cos it's longer than the normal sedan..

 cheers

To fit more than 1 golf set in the boot, most continental saloon would be a problem because they pad the boot well. Also the more automatic equipment (ie features) the car have, the less boot space. Example - the BMW 7 Series have powered back seats and the motors are in the boot.

Japanese cars have more boot space because they have less padding and also less equipment in the boot. So even the tiny Toyota Vios can carry 3 golf sets.

The best option for carrying many golf sets would be MPV (Wish, etc) or SUV (Lexus RX, Volvo XC or even Honda CRV, etc).

My friend's humble Nissan Lation had one of the biggest boot on record. Cheap and damned good for golf. And surprisingly quite torquey with 4 bags. The Toyota Corolla Altis has big boot too. Both cars can easily accommodate 4 bags with a bit of room to spare for 2 boston bags. Smile

Previously on a Honda City.. the gen 3 version with a 400L boot. Can fit 4 golf bag... 4 adults big adults (mostly my size).. and their duffle bag and made the trip to malacca and back in 1/2 a tank.

Generally japanese & Korean car number 1 criterial is to be able to fit golf bags in the boot, so if you go for those, they can easily fit golf bags. But if you are looking for conti.. u have to look at the luxury class and above. 5er.. E.. A6 etc.

5er and E.. you will have problem in the middle rear.. as need the transmission tunnel. Same for 3er and C.. the new C class coming soon. E.. can fit more than 2 no problems.. but need to know how to load it.

Anyway, your safest bet will be Lexus.. SUV and MVP. My previous odc.. 5 or 6 bags also no issue.. last row just need to lie flat.. and bag loaded in a vertical sense.

I think generally, Japanese car manufacturers design cars to carry golf bags. Is it because the Japs are more crazy about golf than others? My friend's Volvo S80 have a little problem loading 4 golf bags. The golf bags have to be loaded with the top of the golf bag straight in, not the normal way. Very Happy
