Actually I am one such golfer that really neevr break 100. But from my observations on those who usually play below 100. They must at least have 1 long and 1 shot games working. Long game-  Driver, or fairway shot, Short game chipping or putting.   If either both no work, difficult.

Not really need to be Long or have short game working. Just need to make use of the longest & most confident club in your bag to hit often.

One just need to play conservative ie

Par3 - 2 on and 2putt (4 X 4 holes = 16)
Par4 - 3 on and 2putt (5 X 10 holes = 50)
Par5 - 5 on and 2 putt (7 X 4 holes = 28)

As Long as minimise the occasional double par due to OB, hazard etc shld not be hard to break 100s.

My personal experience.. breaking 100 is not difficult. just need your putting need to be chun. 2 putts most of the time and dun use high risk clubs. But then, its like taking the fun out of golf.

Breaking 90 is about course management. and your ball striking skills need to be fairly good. I find that when I break 90, I have very little penalty on that game. Short game needs to be good to go below 85.

Breaking 80.. once I have done it constantly.. will let you know.

Most of time playing in the 90s from blue tee.  But, i must qualify by saying blue tees in JB only.  The Spore courses are longer hence must stick to the whites!  Otherwise the marshalls will show up soon Sad  My driver is not long usually avg 180 to 200yds.

Occasionally, my scores in 3 digits due to OB or bad break.  I think is not course mgt but mental problems (too tense maybe) near green where a tight chip for par can turn into a double instead of going for simple bogey.

Have not broken into 80s for a long time.  Sigh.... Perhaps trying too hard.

Been advised and helps in my game;

If you had a bad drive or bad approach or something that is not working on certain holes; just take the medicine and aim to walk away with a bogey or worse dB.. Don't try too hard, this is sure a hole killer approach..

Short game just make sure you see the hole as big as a five 5-8 footer and this will make it so much life easy to hole it next stroke...

P.S: golf an ego game so sometimes just wanna...

Pick an easier 18 hole to start with. Different coarse are built to  have their own characteristic.
So choose a flat terrain instead of hilly type . Not one with lots of water-hazard. Not one which green are surrounded by sand. Can save up to 5 stroke while we are still at home.

All these challenging coarse we can go  play there after  breaking 10-90-80.

Breaking 100s

I believe that by avoiding the big number (triple bogey or double par) when u encountered a OB, hazard etc, u can simply keep the Long clubs and play lay-ups instead to minimise the damage.

Course management is also pretty important; not simply by playing ur approach from 90-120m (most comfortable club) but plan ur tee shots (dun need tee off my driver every Par 4 or 5).

If u can consistently do that, breaking 100s and maintaining below 100s shldnt be a problem.

Hi all,

Just my own opinion. I have yet to break 100. Best is 104...
But I believe my passion for the game will help me break it one day.
Of course with correct and suitable improvement. Breaking 90 will be the
real challenge I believe.

Cheers,
Eferata
