Was told that at Royal Johor locals typically give only 20-30 RM but caddies expect min 40RM from Singaporeans. Was there 2 months ago, Caddie not happy with 40RM and asked for more.. My golfing partner asked me not to spoil market...

From my understanding, at JCC the recommended tips is from RM40 to Rm60 depending on the service provided. Usually I will give Rm50 to Rm60. My friend kena a young Malay caddie who don't even look out for his ball. He don't even know anything about golf. In the end my friend gave him Rm30, I think.

That is true, we pay 25-30 for 9 holes. If 18 holes, it is double.

In the end, it's about what each individual think is fair and affordable because not everyone has deep pockets. Wink

paying 100 to one Caddie carrying one bag for 18 holes = spoil market.

Unless of course you are betting big bucks and the Caddie helped you win a lot of money, then ok.

End May played at Legends and 3 golfers sharing one caddy due to the other 2 golfers not familiar with Legends. We paid RM40 to the caddy. Her performance just normal.

3 golfers sharing one caddy.....

RM40 = SGD 16.7 => SGD 5.55 per person.......for someone accompanying you for 4 hours... => SGD 1.4 per hour per person

I am not loaded but I do hope at the end of the day, some humanity prevails.

"paying 100 to one Caddie carrying one bag for 18 holes = spoil market."

In my opinion, if a golfer is willing to part with Rm100 tips for the caddie the golfer will not suffer nor is he spoiling the market. The caddie has to know that that is not the market rate. I think it will be the caddie who will be feeling unhappy when he next caddie for another golfer due to expectations of similar reward and did not receive the amount he expected. Rolling Eyes

Here is something that everyone can do:

Link caddy tip with your result score...

Set the market rate tips (RM50) to your average score. Every 1 stroke less means extra RM5, capped at your preferred max tips e.g. RM80. Similarly every 1 stroke more, minus RM2 from the tip, capped at RM40.

So if you are playing better than usual, you are happy with the score and the caddy is also happy with more tips.

Some might argue that the caddy might be terrible but you score well because you happen to be in the "zone". Well, aren't you happy with the score? Why not share this joy with the caddy... Vice versa when you are just playing terrible but the caddy does all they can to help you minimise the damage, then you can share your woes or for the really really excellent caddy, just give the normal market rate as the recognition of the efforts.

This can be applied to the big time gamblers... Just like the professional caddies, they ought to get 10% cut of your winnings + the standard market rate tip. Or if it's not your day, just pay the standard market rate.

Tipping more will not "spoil the market" if anything it will encourage caddys to take more pride in their job and aspire to offer a better performance for you to have a better golfing experience . If anything , I'm doing you a favour. Smile

Sorry for off topic here. In Indonesia caddy tip market rate is Rp100,000 (est. - SGD 15.00). I always ask caddy on direction for putt since they knew the green better then me.

It is good to give some motivation for caddy to read the putt. I use to tell her that if I holed every putt for par or birdies from her direction given. I will give her RP10,000 for par and RP20,000 for birdies.

By doing so, she really take the time and focus in reading the putt for me.

Unfortuately, I do not play allot of par or birdies in a round, so really did not spend too much Very Happy

I usually tip MYR50 (MYR60 if he is good) for a caddy who handles 4 bags on a turfmate.

What is the definition for "TIP" ?
I too often got told off that I tip too little. WHY?
TIPPING is usually gauge at 10-15%,
so if the caddie fee for one game is 50 then logically the tip should be 10 as "TIP"

It would be a different ball game if you hire a super grade A caddie.
I once paid the equivalent of my maid's pay for the 2 days game. (those day 70K/mth)

I work on max 20% of what I pay for the golf game. 150 X20% =30
or what the club recommend.

If U wanna bring her home, that is a different price.

DONT MIXED IT UP AS TIPS..... OK?????

The caddy mainly served one of golfer and most of the time we are taking care ourselves due to buggy can go in fairway.
If you go by accompanying hour then no need to consider performance just tipping is OK.

I am not sure about different courses in Indonesia but most player is giving Rp100k tip in Surabaya.

I understand in Malaysia, you are allow to go without caddy. If I am correct, in Indonesia, caddy is compulsory ( they worry player will damages their course )

In fact I prefer walking courses with caddies like one usually can find in Indonesia, Vietnam, Taiwan, China and Thailand. The reasons being, in professional level, one needs to walk and I feel like a PRO even though I am not one. Laughing In addition, my eye-sight is not that good anymore. Haiz! Sad

Bwahahaha ... Bro, you know me well ... Have you ever golfed in the high class Cenkareng Country Club in JKT (near the airport)? The Bag Drop Usherers were so pretty and young ... The good thing was, they wore white color tight fitting top and super mini skirt and even the lasses that manned the halfway houses were eye candy to me Twisted Evil ... Was drooling non-stopped ... Razz I also heard all the female caddies were specially handpicked and have to go for aerobic classes very often to maintain their fitness and slim physique ... Laughing

Bro, I do not know whether I know you well enough but I am sure we have similar thinking hehehehe

I do not know about the part they need to go to aerobic to keep slim but all caddy at bag drop will be specially selected in all Indonesia golf club. Isn't it a nice welcome feeling every time you arrive in the club to play. " Hi baby, i have 14 stick inside. you think it is enough if I just use that one stick that I carry with me ?" ROFL
