Hi ppl,

Just wondering....

Why do you play golf or pick up golf? interesting game, make u a better person, earn more $$$ from yr kaki's. turn pro, etc? Really like to hear from fellow forumers here..

And also, why do you let your kids pick up golf. Or what you want your kids to pick up golf?
to train their character, fulfill yr dream, etc ?

I started out golf because my Dad wanted me to get off my lazy bum and do something. Actually, he just thought that it would be a good way for father-and-son to bond, and I definitely agree. I hated it when I started but soon found that it was a good way to connect. When 2 or more people play together, you also bond.

Now, I play golf to meet people, get some exercise (albeit hardly thanks to the wonders of buggies) and to see the world, at least a little. It's fun and rewarding even though the process is often painful.

Had similar history like Technospaz, i was so lazy during my teenage years, my dad just ask me to caddy him around. I suppose, this is one of the ways, my dads wants me to be more active in outdoor activity instead hang around at the malls.

And now, it pays back, i miss those good old times. Make a point to play with my old man at least 3 or more in a year.

why golf....hmm...got into golf by circumstances..coz cant play any game anymore due to wear and tear of body parts. Also, soccer kakis now all now have other family focus...imagine try to form a game with 11 kakis.....walau!!!!

So luckily met a bunch of golfing colleagues..and like they said, the rest is history. My default channel is Golf channel nowadays.

If my kid is keen, then it is good becos, can bond for 4-5 hours unless some #$^%$% slow flight in front....and can last till long time...then other sports lor...

ventured into golf cos I was banned by wifey from playing soccer anymore due to a gash on the head that required stitches...

realised that you actually need to be quite fit to play golf! (used to think that when im older and slower and cant play soccer anymore then start golfing), now im really enjoying this new sport and had since hanged up my soccer boots! Smile

Hahaha! Actually, I've resisted playing golf for several years, because I felt that it's an expensive hobby.

My colleagues finally convinced me to try it, and I got hooked. Razz

And yes, I still feel that it is an expensive hobby .... Crying or Very sad

i'm a bowler for almost 15years abit sick of bowling and also most of my bowler kaki went into golf. At the end lesser bowling kaki left behind and partly due to my work natural need to entertaining clients to play golf.

another reason becos of my son started play golf hopefully can bring closer relationship with him

i look to golf as a healthy addication/distraction that can last me into old age... at least, i hope my body can hold out that long.

My kids took after me... on the serious note, i juz hope they can learn that most times, they are juz playing against themselves, vis a vis the dist that matters is juz the six-inches (or so) between the two ears...

My bowling ball is collecting dust too... at my parents' place. The only bowling I do these days is on my Wii Wink

That being said, I think it's great that you're picking up the sport to play with your son, HR! Well done, mate. It's great. Your son may not appreciate it now but believe you me... in the years to come, he'll always remember the fun he had with his Dad! I know I do.

If it wasnt for golf, who knows where I would be now. Started at 13 with some friends from school. Became hooked immediately. Problem was I was supposed to be a leftie. Could never get my hands on some left handed sticks so I had to learn to play right handed. Always wanted to be a pro and grew up watching The Shark - Greg Norman. I wanted to be just like him. Got down to scratch handicap at about 17 and then discovered girls and beer so stopped playing for about 4 years. Beer
Played a round after 4 years break and shot 71 (-1) and then I decided to pursue a PGA traineeship. Had some success in some small pro ams but passion was always to teach. Taught in Australia for a while then got a job in this wonderful country and here I am today. Still love to go out for a game and the odd tournament but nothing makes me more happy than the look on a students face when they hit that little white ball down the middle, when they shoot their best score or win a tournament!! The opportunities presented and the people I have met through this great game is priceless.
I don't have kids but if I did, I hope they would want to play

Wify and I took up golf for exercise as our jobs mostly involve sitting in front of a computer screen 10 hours a day.

Many years ago, we even tried to book 18 holes on a Sunday morning without ever having hit a golf ball on a real course.

Thank goodness, it was fully booked, so we could not make complete fools out of ourselves. Later, we practiced on a neaby college practice course (three par 3 holes) and realised how difficult golf really is.

We took lessons on-and-off ever since when in Singapore.

She still takes them from our main coach, but I glean most new info & techniques via chats with teaching pros and single-digit handicappers nowadays.

I played it for a long while. Got my Rogue to 60 on the original, and restarted when BC came out - got my new rogue to 70 too. WotLK is still sitting unopened at home. Tempted to restart but prefer golf Wink
