Dunno why but last nite michael breed did a session on spin. On launch monitor, Hitting draws produced less overall back spin. Carry was longer, as was roll.

In theory, hit draw must swing inside out to inside. Face square or open.

How? I dunno. I oso fade coz my natural path is slight out to in.

But woody austin gave a very logical golf lesson also on golf channel. Basically he said our left waist must move towards target first before turning over. This will force right shoulder to drop on the inside. Just turning left waist without lateral move, causes the right shoulder to go over the top. Check it out. Its often repeated as fillers.

DS, a draw ball is like top spin in tennis or table tennis with the ball spinning from back to front. On that effect when it landed, because of its forward spinning motion, ball tends to roll forward. Of course this does not work on a wet ground. In a fade ball, the ball is spinning from front to backward. This is so because you hit the ball downwards imparting a backspin like motion. Its action when landed will stopped the ball instead of rolling forward. Hope I am not confusing you. Best example simplified is the car wheel. A draw ball is like the spinning motion of the wheel of a car when it is moving forward and a fade or slice is similar to wheel of a reversing car.

Actually per launch monitor, there is no topspin from full swing. Just that draw produces much less backspin.

topspin in golf is from putting

i thought nike and TM did a study that there was skidding or even a little back spin on putting?

the forward spin only starts a few inches after the ball leaves the putter face.

imo a draw is just more efficient energy transference and has the ability to generate a tad more swing speed.

because a draw to a rightie is a fade to a leftie.

But does a leftie fade have same backspin than a righty draw?

Although It looks the same but actual ball behaviour may not.

righty or lefty, a draw will produce less spin than a fade. all pros and club fitters will tell us that. PJ is correct.

for me personally, I think I have issues with my swing. Using the same swing, for the following clubs, 7-P and my driver, I hit a draw. For my 6 and 5 irons, my hybrid and fairway wood I hit a fade. Can anyone help tell me what is wrong?

since GR top buaya says so, I better reconsider.. hehe
no wonder your fade goes further than draw.

anyway, as I understand it, the draw has a lower ball flight, as a result of lower back spin. hence the more roll.

ZX, can you elaborate more on your thoughts? share share?

ok at the risk of being labelled an arm chair critic, here is what I understand about draw and fade..

Edit: the below is for right hander.

case 1: Open or Closed face angle with swing path square to target line
Open will increase loft and launch ball higher, increase back spin with a slight tilt in rotation axis to the right. results in higher ball flight and slightly less roll
Closed face reduces loft and launch ball lower, decrease backspin with slight tilt in rotation axis to the left. results in lower ball flight and slightly more roll.

case 2: Square face with in-to-out swing path or out-to-in swing path relative to target line at the same degree of path difference clockwise or anticlockwise
Assuming both will give same dynamic loft, then backspin and launch angle should be same.
axis of rotation will tilt in different directions for each giving the draw or fade.
both will have same height reached and same roll on the ground.

Other cases will be a mix of the 2 examples above. since we are not iron byron, and can't repeat our swings, all i can say is hit hard and look up! What a Face

This kind of thing must ask moi the expert..... Er.... Eh.... Want distance... Dun care about draw and fade.... Work on impact to get distance..... I only feel that u can consider a draw or a fade shot only when u can control the amount of the fade and the draw. My idol Fred couples, hits with a fade, but I think he is also hitting it longer than most draw players on tour.

So what must a person do to ensure he hits a draw or fade regardless of what clubs he use?
