I have a question.

Which is more impt? Getting a relative good golf set (abt $1000++ - $2000 max) that can last awhile or find a personal coach that will be able to teach all the right swings and correct methods.

Pls give your valuable advises..

Thanks

option 1 if you are an equipment slut
option 2 if you like playing the game

equipment can last, no need to be expensive

The reason why i post this question bocs i realised that i am a "old" newbie.
I had my 1st PC back in the 2002.. I have a few group coach with a few friends and had changed a couple of golf set... but i realised that i am still hitting 100 +.

I may think i know what to do in a golf swing but i am not that good, it's worse when i go on the green.

The last time i played on the green was more than a year ago... maybe i am not serious... (i shd get serious now) ... Shd i change my set? It's a maruman titus V1.

Get a coach who besides having good credentials, will know something about equipment other than 'this club is too stiff, heavy for u etc' without explaining why so.

Better yet, one who besides getting u on the right path of the game, will also recommend u a good fitter who can get u a set thats customised for u without wasting 1-2k buying branded golf clubs in specs that are way off from what u need.

I enjoy my game playing proper golf with equipment I know that suits me so that when I hit a bad shot, I know its my swing.
I also enjoy my golf having a good coach tell me what was wrong with my swing by breaking it down properly with explanations and good drills to work on to groove a better one.

But hey, everyone plays the game for their personal reasons, be it hitting it pure and improving scores as they play the game longer or hit shots, mostly bad than good but enjoying the scenery without a care for their score, I hope u find out what is yours in life.

Of course there will be. The problem is weeding out the gems from the dirt.

they might not know in detail the cpms or length of shafts to suit u but sufficient equipment knowledge is required for a good pro.

U pay for what u get. We're not talking about Butch Harmon type of pricing but a certain amt for a good pro goes a long way in improving in this game. If saving money is what u wanna do, I suggest neither in the 1st place.

It's not like one or the other.
Both are impt and one cannot negate either if one wants to play the game, even for simple reason like enjoying the game.

I feel that I can't go far with my present set and swing. Unless I can find someone / something that can correct me... I may be a "old" newbie for a long long time.

wah....this is macam asking if whether to have a happy marriage, does one need to have a good wife, or a good husband?

Very tough....question.

For me, if you want to spend say 2K, then use a portion for training and a portion for equipment. A more realistic question then will be what percentage split. If I have your type of investment, I will go 45% : 55%......with coaching heavy.

Dun be like me try so hard on range only to make it worse. All it took was few hours with my coach to correct it. That was my best decision yet.

Like Duval said go heavy on the coach . Dun save on pennies and lose them pounds

Agree fully.

that being said, decent 2nd hand equipment not that expensive.
iron set - under $400
Driver - under $150
Putter - under $150
Hybrid - under $100

All in all, less then $1000 for a fairly decent set. (eg Old TM, R7, Burner09 etc)

Do you want to invest on new equipment while you've still having a set (assuming usable set)? Do you want to invest game improvement?

My opinions :
1. Get a coach to assist you on game improvement, posture or correct your swing . If you want to improve it ASAP, it's better to have 1 on 1 for a few sessions. There are a few teacing pro in this forum.
2. Get your coach advise you whether you'll need to get new set. No need to get a new set if you're not sure of root cause.
3. Lastly , do you've passion for this sport? If yes, then it's good to move on. cheers
