So here is what my 'messed up' brain was thinking. Smart golfer ...someone who has a weird and bad swing. But one who always manage to get up and down ....faster than most.

Take Seve for example, many times his ball land quite a way fm the target. but somehow he reaches the green faster than most (at his prime).

So is he one who is smart...in the sense, that he can come out with many shots that one does not train for ?

This came to my mind because I remembered a article where they were saying many youngsters in US have the most textbook swing. Don get me wrong, I am not against pursuing a text book swing, but just wondering if the smartness is somethign that can be trained.

I think you will find that most good golfers practice shots from "bad" places as well... A lot of Pro's play 3 balls from a tee as practice then take the wosrt shot and take 3 shots from there and play the worst and so on, and try to make par... Try it sometime at Mandai or NSRCC is not easy...

Also Seve I dont think was "smart" if smart he would not have been in the positions he was in... but as he grew up playing with only one club he has a great imagination and could visualize any shot and you can be sure he practiced all the shots that he pulled off at one time or another...

Worked for him....

But I do agree with u D.

Many 'good' players from my club suffer when it comes to inter-club comps.

Thing is they have been too used to playing their home course so often that when they play elsewhere, they dunno how to tackle it. End up playing like total beginners.

Then whats your thoughts of those players who usually play at their own kampong, shoots over a 100 but on rare occassions when there are bets involved in other courses they tear their opponents apart (TSS grandmaster at batam palm springs and JC on many other courses).

ANother way, find a course that there are hardly any people, then form flights of 2, tee off two balls per player and each player will play the ball which is at the worst position, directly opposite of texas scramble i think.
