My 2 greatest irritants is :-

1. When I am playing golf but mind is thinking about work. Sometimes, really bo pian......but wat to do? We live in a stressful society

2. When ur GF/Wife calls you in the middle of your game and blast you just because you forgot to tell her you playing golf........

I think these 2 is the worst. Once, my fren got a call from his boss, asking him to go back to work after his game......Wallow!!!! Faintz!!!!

Thankfully it's to ask him to get back to work and not to collect his termination letter. I once got a call from a client terminating my business. bom

Tips? Coach, Teach, whatever... just don't do it loudly.. Here I am trying to figure out my terrible swing and I hear incessant chanting...
So far all my pros whisper their tips... Be considerate.
See signature.

Once at greens fairways range and a group is behind me, just when I am going to practise my driver, one guy start telling his friend how to hit. He spoke loud enough for me to hear that he felt just behind me. I actually cut my follow thru coz I feel like I will hit him... so uncomfortable...

Not golf course related, but driving range......When outside instructors come to OCC and conduct lessons at the range and on the academies short game area. Very unethical!!

RSC, I agree with you. Outside coaches should not be allowed. However, if it's just friendly advice from a better golfer to a new golfer - would that irk you as well? Just asking cause I've seen some range pros getting upset and telling the golfers not to do so.

Friend helping friend, husband helping wife, father helping son doesnt bother me. It is human nature to help others. Besides it means more lessons for me in the long run as the advice they normally give their friends is usually wrong and then they need a pro to correct them anyway. lol! The only problem I have with friend helping friends is when they do it inside the academies designated bays. Some even have the nerve to use our mirrors!!

The big issue is when a pro comes to the range with students and does lessons unauthorised. We caught a pro ( I won't mention his name) who was teaching 2 ladies on the academies chipping and putting green. This pro has been caught here many times yet he still comes back from time to time. We pay a large sum of money to have the teaching rights at OCC and do not take kindly to free lance pros stepping on our turf!

I am on your side absolutely in defending your turfs against unethical trespassing by freelancing pros into your territory, and shamelessly using your teaching assets.

But to suggest that friends helping friends will create problem is presumptious, even arrogant. There are times we can point out obvious violation of basics - simple things like wrong alignment, wrong grips, wrist movements in putting etc. We know our limits and will leave advanced mistakes to teaching pros, in fact we always encourage friends to get help from pros when we feel their swings are grossly out of line. I have played with enough friends and strangers to adopt my own policy of not commenting on people's swings unless invited to do so.

No offence, pros are also humans. They were born like us, with a blank database of swing techniques in their heads. Whatever they can learn to become teaching pros, the rest of the populations with sufficient intelligence can also acquire those knowledge.

I have personally suffered from teaching pros from internationally recognised Golf Academy, who not only had no patience, but with a mind that could not reason, or explain their reasonings.

a few times some pro approach me when they see me teaching my GF....only for they to walk away laughing (YES!!! i SAW SOME OF U SMIRKING) when they hear what i tried to teach... Mad

The most irritating is a fight of 4 balls in front of you taking 2-3 putts each but lining up and studying the slope like a pro FOR EVERY PUTT!!!!!!!.... 3 putts x 4 golfers = 12 putts with an average of 30 sec-1 min each = 6-12 mins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even worst when you are ~ 180m out and u think u can reach the green so u waited, with the flight behind staring and pointing at u, only for u to miss-hit a 100m dribbler after the flight in front have ended their pro putting.

A Fight of 4 balls? affraid

talking about lining up to study slope and putt one by one.
I dislike it as well if they taking way too long time to do this.
(I realised Japanese likes to play like that neh)

As for waiting on a 180m shot, I would usually wait for the green to clear before hitting this 180m shot. Hack care anyone waiting behind.

Cos, if I hit it right, it will reach the green.
though Sometimes, mishit end up 150m la.. but better play safe if not kenna someone. Very Happy

LOL wrote flight wrongly...but ironically sometimes fights will break out (actually more like arguments and a lot of arms flailing and finger pointing) which only delay the proceedings. Also dont want to hit the ball 'near' in case i break their concentration on a $1000 putt.

I apologise if offended anyone. The comment was meant as humour hence the lol! It should have read "sometimes".
From my experience, I have seen alot of hard work by students to fix their swings been brought undone by "friendly" advice given by friends, parents, and that bloody Golf Channel. I am sure the intentions were good but not always the right advice. If anyone wants to help others, then please, please just do not tell them "keep your head down" or "keep your left arms straight" Those are the two most common and the two that have the most disastrous results.
All coaches will have different swing ideologies which is fine, but if you mix Leadbetter with Butch, with a bit of Haney and RSS, then it aint gonna work. Most with sufficient intelligence can acquire knowledge on the golf swing, but trust me it takes years of hands on experience to know what effect a certain change in grip or the like will have on other parts of the swing. If the wrong thing is changed, the swing will not work. It is often a change to the basics that can get the rest of it grossly out of line

The most memorable irritant for me lasted 18 holes!!

I was playing in a tournament in my home club in JB, & my friend & i were paired up with another 2 balls, also from SG. 1 of these 2 gentlemen actually has a 'breakdance' ritual before every stroke he played, from driver to putter. He would address the ball, stare at it for a long 1 sec, then start jerking his shoulders up & down, followed by his arms & hands, which end up waggling the club. This whole dance routine takes at least 30 seconds, for every single stroke!!! His friend told us he has had this habit since he started playing golf more than 10 years ago. Worst still, he can go thru the 30-sec routine before a putt, then feel uncomfortable with the line, back out, check line, then start the routine all over again. We end up being the last flight to come back in the tournament. I don't know to pity him or get pissed with him.

Very true. Usually good teaching pros can tell the difference between cause and effect or appearances versus underlying symptoms. Some people have medical/physical conditions that restrict or hinder certain movements which good-hearted golf kakis would not know about.

I don't know to pity him or get pissed with him.

I played recently with one of the slowest golfers in Singapore and it really tests ones patience just waiting for him to finally hit the ball. But as there is no rule against how long it takes to play, there's not much to do but clean the grooves of your clubs while waiting.
